Sharing A Mellow Drum Cover Of "Held In The Arms Of Your Words" By Tired Pony

in dtube •  6 years ago  (edited)

This is a nice song I heard a few months ago on the blog of someone who has great taste in music. It went directly to my Spotify favorites. The tone, build up and lyrics are all so easy on the ears.

I've been meaning to play over the soft drums on the track and finally got my chance to try drumming it for the first time today. The drummer plays gentle sixteenth notes on the snare with brushes throughout most of the song, which actually served as a useful metronome/tempo guide for me. I only strayed away by a fraction of a beat a few times in this take.

I like how this song takes a while to build, so I tried to play behind it, before opening up a rock ballad feel at 3:50. The song isn't about the drums, so I wanted to play gently to avoid throwing off the balance. If I worked on the song a few more times, I'd probably be able to add more auxiliary percussion or light fills to spice it up, but something told me to keep it simple.
