If You Have Been on The Fence with DTube, Here’s Why You Should Join

As I mentioned in my first video on here, I was stalking Steemit for a long time. I was seeing what types of posts people wrote and trying to get the courage to write about things I am passionate about. One thing that kept catching my interest was people posting DTube videos.

For me, I have always loved watching people’s videos rather than just read their articles and the reason is because I am able to get a sense of who they are. I can put a voice to the words I am reading from that point on and see their personality/how passionate they are about what they are talking about.

Video content has only been getting more and more attention as it’s the best way to stand out and engage with your audience. That is why I think that DTube will only succeed with time as we continue in our digital age (and as blockchain technology receives more attention). On top of that, having a platform where content creators will be rewarded and not stripped away from monetization will resonate with many.

@DTube and Steemit have been my first content creating experience and I must say, it’s been amazing!

DTube & YouTube

I see those who post on YouTube and share that video on Steemit and others who post only on DTube. For me, I haven’t started posting to YouTube yet as I am brand new in my content creating journey but I do plan to since let’s face it, that’s the way to get to a majority of the world still. YouTube is the largest website for user-created content but it’s not perfect and that’s why people are looking for alternatives. YouTube has been enforcing a much stricter ad policy and demonetizing videos which are making many users upset. However, YouTube is still such a powerful search engine tool and plays a huge role in someone’s exposure starting out.

One of YouTube’s Recent Changes That Suck

  • You used to need only 10000 lifetime views to earn money from ads. Now, you need to have 4,000 hours of watch time within in the past 12 months AND 1,000 subscribers.
This is hard for new users on YouTube as they have to wait to start receiving revenue from their videos. DTube allows new users to make money Day 1 if they simply get a “Thumbs Up” or upvote.

DTube’s Strengths:

  • They put the power back in the hands of the creators by limiting the censorship that is often found on YouTube
  • Decentralized
  • There are no ads during your video experience allowing no interruption in the creator’s message
  • Similar to Steemit, you can get paid for the written content that you produce, but you can bust out your camera and do it that way
  • It’s another way for Steemit users to engage with the community
  • It adds to Steemit’s potential of getting more users as it diversifies the platform
  • Great team of developers who are transparent about the platform
  • DTube strongly supports their community and often will upvote content

Summary

I think DTube is great and I would love to see it get more content creators & continue creating a valuable user base. The more attention we bring to DTube, the more it will stand out to the mass population. DTube has the potential to become a very strong platform for value based content. I believe it is a platform that caters to the masses as it levels the playing field for all forms of content creators (with minimized censorship). Decentralization is a beautiful thing and I’m pumped to have found DTube early on in my content creating process.

We just need to keep getting more big fishes from YouTube to come to DTube and bring their viewers!

Also, in case you were wondering,

How to Sign Up for a DTube Account

  • Use your Steem username and your PRIVATE posting key. This took me a bit to find as I was brand sticking new and didn’t entirely know how to navigate the platform.
  • How You Find Your Private Posting Key: Go to “Wallet” --> “Permissions” --> Click “Show Private Key” next to the Posting tab --> Use that as your password

For those that use DTube, what are your thoughts on the platform so far??

Youtube's new rules are too hard for most of the content creators. Soon we will start seeing more people on Dtube! I wish they would just start allowing video creators to keep earning money after the 7 days.

I knowwwww, I completely agree! That is their biggest weakness in my opinion but other than that I love the platform.

one question, do you think cross posting videos to different services dilutes your brand for audience building? I agree that dtube is not well known yet, but so to get people to see your Content you want to put it in front of them. however if they can also see it on YouTube why would they come watch it on dtube?

I think it would be best to do it as a patreon, if you had a big enough following to find youtube worth competing on. If you have a large cache of videos wait and post them earlier on your dtube over youtube then run contests for your followers that require participation on the steemit blockchain in some form.

I think that makes total sense. Run a social campaign through patreon, host your content on dTube but also leave breadcrumbs on YouTube so people discover you to lead you to where you are posting your fresh content.

I agree with @trismegistuz and you, @jeftek! I think that leaving breadcrumbs for an audience to find your more fresh content as you put it on DTube would be smart. :)

Way too shy :P

I was at first too but once you get past the initial awkwardness of seeing and hearing yourself on camera, it's not too bad! :P

Me too ... I'm okay with my yoga videos but I'm working on speaking so hopefully I'll be able to do that soon!

I have so many youtube videos. I really should get to publishing on dtube. I will have to get in gear:)

YES! Start just slowly integrating some dtube videos! :)

I absolutely agree with you. After lurking on Steemit for the past month or so commenting and curating I took the plunge and posted my first d.tube video last night.

while not the finest production value I learned alot doing it and enjoyed it.

I know we can see how many up votes content gets, but can we see how many views a dtube video has received?

I'm looking forward to getting better at it and posting more videos in the future.

thank you for posting this as I think it's a great conversation on the topic.

I believe that the only way to see the views is to look at your steemit article version with the dtube and see at the bottom! I may be wrong, but that's how I see :) And it was a great video! The quality is quite good and love the voiceover. Keep posting great content!

I agree with you on watching vs reading! I need to do more DTube videos. I've only done 1 and not many people many responded. Maybe it was my subject matter. Thanks for the good post!

Give it another go! I think it just depends with what resonates with people but definitely post more. The consistency will help :)

It's Not Whether You Get Knocked Down, It's Whether You Get Up

solid comment about life! haha

Thanks for sharing. Can you explain ISPF settings? Is there an Android version?

Girl! I'm working on a similar post. haha Great job!

Haha great minds think alike! Sorry for the delay on this comment btw, been crazy busy!!! Can't wait to read your article :)

Without having advertisers on YouTube, you don't have to concern yourself with picky vendors looking to see where they can place their ads and who they favor over another. Some of the Google/YouTube issues are advertisers who were concerned that their ads would or could appear on controversial channels.

Yep - exactly! The advertisers didn't want to risk their content being seen on the wrong channel so YouTube/Google put those rules in to help alleviate the worry for their advertisers. Their new rule for new creators is pretty rough though, especially ones just starting out! But all things take time I guess? haha

dtube is definitely where it's at, youtube has become way too restricted for creators. This platform gives them the opportunity to create without such heavy guidelines especially with the new 10,000 subscriber limit on partnerships. For most this would take months on end, without any reward, atleast with dtube we can see real rewards while building an audience.

Yeah, I felt like it was more fair when it was based on lifetime views! It's going to be intimidating for a lot of new users to start and I think it only helps the big dogs already on YouTube. DTube levels the playing field. :)

The fact of being decentralized is definitely the biggest advantage of DTube. But to be honest I don't really understand that big discussion about the new regulations on YouTube about having at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours per year.
I asked people who already were on YouTube before and wanted to know how much money the could actually make with these follower and watch numbers. So, what I wanted to know was what they were missing from this new regulation.
And as I thought it were just a few pennies. And I guess Peter McKinnon mentioned this in one of his videos as well. Not a big lost isn't it?

Love Peter McKinnon!! I'll have to watch his video addressing it. :) I'm not in the YouTube world yet so truthfully, I can't entirely speak to what is being missed out on and it's insightful knowing that you asked creators on there and it isn't much of a difference. I think YouTube is still incredibly powerful but DTube has great advantages that make it worth taking the time to post to as well!
