Bee relocation -forced abscond.

One of the things we offer other than honey is a bee removal service. Instead of killing the bees, we relocate them to our yard where they can be monitored for pests and disease and in return we get a little honey the following yr. This usually involves opening up a structure but in some cases, you can force them out of the cavity with a little know how and persuasion. Once in they box you can actually leave it there on-site for a few days ( if you got the queen) and they will stay and actually rob the honey out of their old home and move it to the new one. This works well in small cavities, but things like shed walls etc, it almost never works because there are places for them to get away other than out the entrance. I normally don't remove them from trees especially if they have a higher entrance because they are seldom problems, but as you can see though this one was right by the sidewalk in front of the house and the homeowner was going to spray them if they couldn't be removed.

What do you do with the bees if the queen doesn't come with them?

you can either give them a queen you purchased or raised yourself or what I like to do is give them a frame of eggs so they can raise their own but either way the genetic line will change that is why I do as much as I can to get the feral queen.
