First Day Managing a Little League Baseball Team (#COACHDAD-VLOG VOL 2.)

Learning Experience

After my first day of managing the 7 youth baseball team, I am excited. I have to get used to my players calling me COACH and not Ryan or Mr. Brown. I volunteered to do this because no one else volunteered and I see that my son is taking his time in baseball serious. To be completely honest, I never saw myself here, ever. As an adult, we always lived in the city surrounded by a vibrant lifestyle. Life in the suburbs are too slow for me, but participating in things like this puts it all in to perspective.

Takeaways

  1. Be patient because some of these kids have never played baseball before.
  2. Be a role model for the kids. I accidentally said shit and one of the kids turned and gave me "the look" I knew then that I needed to get my act together.
  3. Try to get the parents involved.
  4. Try to develop winners on and off the field.
  5. Make sure the kids have fun and learn the game BUT remember WINNING IS still EVERYTHING.
  6. @Dtube giving you problems...

This is great @xtrodinarypilot! The experience both you and your son will get is priceless. Your post started me thinking. Mostly I have been following, upvoting and posting a little, not giving much information about me personally. I am very shy and timid when it comes to talking about me. So, now, because of this post about little league baseball I will try and have a new post with photos up this afternoon. Thanks for the nudge...

Anything I can do to help lol

    Aww, man...

My name is so low on your list!

I just wanted you to look for it lol. Technically i saved the best ones for last. Those were hand typed with passion by yours truly. @donkeypong and up was ctrl+c and ctrl+v

I accidentally said shit and one of the kids turned and gave me "the look"

Haha, I know that look! I am so well practised in turning my shits into sugars :-)

Make sure the kids have fun and learn the game BUT remember WINNING IS still EVERYTHING.

You sound like me, ultra-competitive; however I would amend the above statement to; IMPROVING IS EVERYTHING.

At the end of the day, some of them will suck, and will never win at baseball; teach them that it's about the process, and they'll be happy. A great book to read is Mindset by Carol Dweck, it opened my eyes and ears.

I completely changed the way I spoke to my daughter, and saw immediate positive effects . .

Anyway, good luck to you! :-)
