Philippine Folk Dance Tinikling: I Did it!

in dtube •  6 years ago  (edited)

I never danced in public. I was never a dancer. Just there was one instance way back kindergarten when I saw proofs of me dancing "Shake Body Body Dancer" in a shameless ruffled two piece. That was not of my own volition.

And oh, I almost forgot. I danced, together with other bridesmaids (@ivez, @melanie), during @juwel's and @joonz's wedding. But that was mandatory being the sister of the bride. And well, it was a special memorable event so we had to put on a show and I had to put on a thick mask to get through 5 minutes on that night dancing. Lol.

I came to reminisce my "dancing days" because I never knew I could dance, much less dance a folkdance indigenous to the Philippines.

I danced Tinikling!

I never knew I could dance tinikling. It was a pretty difficult dance.

The dance involves two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance.

It was the highlight of our river cuising in Loboc, Bohol.

But I was able to successfully dance it. Proud of myself that I never got a bamboo between my feet. Yehey!

But I should give credit to the bamboo men who are very kind and mindful of my feet. Lol.

You should check out the vid. I was pretty good being a first timer, so said my dancing potnah! Lol!

Thank you for this blog of yours which showcases the traditional Filipino dance known as Tinikling. By the way, all of you there in the video are really enjoying doing the dance. This traditional dance is rarely seen and seen only in universities or cultural shows.
