39th Annual ABATE of Tulsa Toy Run - Day 25

in dtubesnapplus •  6 years ago

For the past 39 years the American Bikers Aimed Toward Education organization, or ABATE for short, puts on what is called a Toy Run in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The organization invites motorcyclists to bring a toy or more to donate in the Toys For Tots program and then rides around town being escorted by the Tulsa Police Department complete with blocked off streets for the community to thank them for their donations.

There was an estimate of 5,000 to 6,500 entries and from the time it took, I would believe it. We had been hearing a strange noise outside the apartment for a good 15-30 minutes. Heading out to see what was going on, we were pleasantly surprised to find a parade of noisy Christmas clad motorcyclist dressed up in holiday cheer while carrying gifts as if they were Santa in his sleigh. It was truly a sight to behold.

The ABATE of Tulsa organization is not a biker gang or club. On their website http://www.abateoftulsa.com they state:

ABATE of Tulsa, Inc. works to protect the rights of all motorcyclists through direct involvement in the political process. We feel that all of us, from lifestyle-rider to off-road-fan, are brothers and sisters with a common interest – riding free!

They are responsible for many of the workshops and public education concerning the safety for the motorcycling community here in Tulsa. They usually have two big rallies a year, one of which is the Toy Run where they collect donated toys for the Toys for Tots program. If you would like to donate to them yourself, you can visit this website: https://www.toysfortots.org/

Approximately 45 minutes from the time we arrived to watch the parade, a long string of police cars brought up the rear with lights flashing and sirens blaring as if they were in a slow speed pursuit of these motorcyclists. It was all in good fun and brought smiles from all the little kids that had been waving to all who rode past them. How fun was that!

Thanks again for joining us on our adventures.

Thank you for publisizing the toy run; scooter people from all over the country do these runs, but do not get enough publicity. The sound of all these motorcycles making the runs does draw attention locally though, and is very impressive. Glad you get to see these runs.!This is our Santa from the San Jose California area:
Cross MC. (Chrome Tim)

San Jose! Alright! That is one of our favorite areas! Just fell in love with the area when we visited SFO in 2016. My mother was born out there and my grandfather helped with some of the park stuff while they were there.

I just love the candy cane stripes and the antlers! Thanks so much for being a part of something so awesome, it really makes a difference in so many children's lives.

Some nice bikes in that group!

My father does the local Port Alberni toy run every year, it’s always a hoot. We have this one area heading up the harbour quay hill that’s known to be used as a drag strip and of course all the bad mama jamas put on a good show. Last year we had a full on drag bike lay a fat strip up the entire hill, smoked everyone out 😅 man was it loud!

Great Holiday season share, it’s all about giving and helping those kids in need. It’s amazing to see so many “bad asses” come together for such a noble cause.

There were so many amazing bikes for sure. I wish I could have shared the full ride, but it was almost 2 hours long! So many great displays too. At one point a dozen slowed down and they all did "Jingle Bells" with their noise. It was awesome!

Oh, sounds like Port Alberni has a great run! I will have to tell my Brother-in-Law about it! He loves a good rally, especially if it's for a good cause.

Thanks so much for watching and glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah it’s pretty amazing how long it takes, I think the one year we had 10,000 bikes and you could see all of the kids watching starting to get impatient waiting for it to end 😂

Always like watching the spur of the moment captures, something about it feels more genuine then a structured show 💪

Wow! 10,000! That is crazy. I don't think I could have waited that long!!!!

Spur of the moment things have been happening to me a lot the past few weeks. It's nice so I hope it keeps happening. Now if we could just catch @scottf dancing.
Ren

Yea it was quite the wait lol but all the best bikes were at the back of the pack making it worth while 😅

By any chance does @scottf floss? 😆 hilarious looking dance and seems like just some spontaneous body movements!

I hadn't thought of that. There were some neat ones.

Not sure what brought up the floss dance, but no he does not, but my Gran George the First does.

Wow that’s such a cool idea!
And good work doing 25 videos so far!

It really is a great idea. I love that they encourage so much comradery in the motorcycle community. They do so much good all around.

I'm almost halfway there! I was really worried about what all I would say and stay interesting, but ya'll have made it easy!

Thanks for watching!

I have found Santa bikers are extremely generous and giving. I know many of them and they are so kind to others. They will definitely bring us a wonderful holiday!
