An element that is really important to growth on DTube is snaps. Today, I want to share my understanding of snaps and the basic elements of them.

Great video. I agree with all the points you mentioned.

  • I don't like it when the title of a video and the text in the thumbnail are exactly the same. There really isn't any point to that. The text in the thumbnail should complement the title (or coexist as you said).
  • It usually looks bad when someone just adds text without any drop shadow, outline or background banner. For example, If you just put yellow text on your snap, it will probably look like shit. It would be better to outline the yellow text with black or to use a complementary colour of yellow such as blue. That helps the yellow look more defined.
  • I find adding more contrast and saturation to a thumbnail makes it look better. The thumbnail needs to stick out. Without adding more contrast, the picture looks flat. Without enough saturation, everything looks dim.
  • Too much text is a no go.

My weakest area is the coexist part. I sometimes have to sit and directly think about it. I like adding saturation and exposure personally to thumbnails, as well as a gradient.

Awesome video. Knowledge contained. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video.

You're welcome!

Size of text ...yeah, that makes a lot of sense
And KISS :)
Thank you for sharing your experience :D

Thank you!

Agreed man, lol so many people do that whole putting 10+ words in a tiny thumbnail 😂

Contrast and saturation are always great ways to draw attention to it, as is having certain items highlighted by out of focus elements and negative space. Research has shown that red is the colour that causes the most response from the human brain so it’s always good to have red on important elements (if possible without making it look stupid)

I think also having a theme running through all your thumbnails helps when looking at an overview of your videos

Yeah, whole sentences are not fun to look at. I love using blurs, and I think they are one of my favorite tools. Themes are nice too, what sucks is they are hard to pull off sometimes.

Inspired by your vlog I just recorded a tutorial on how I make my thumbnails! I’ll edit and upload it after work
