Will Humans Be Responsible For The End Of The World?

in dystopia •  6 years ago  (edited)

Scientists, politicians, and other public figures have been warning us for some time of our impending doom. While the predicted heat death of the universe is definitely out of our control, there are plenty of other major issues arising that our generation and our children’s generation will have to confront or face the consequences of our perpetual inaction.

The health field is in crisis. New and evolving bacteria are becoming immune to antibiotics, one of the greatest human discoveries of the past century. One reason this has come to pass is the overprescription of antibiotics, of which at least 30% are unnecessary.

Several diseases are beginning to take hold across the world as well. A new, medicine-resistant strain of tuberculosis and multiple forms of the flu are infecting and killing millions worldwide.

One contributing factor to these pandemics is human-induced climate change, which causes rapid shift in environmental, demographic, and social structures. In 2015, 82% of greenhouse gases was comprised of carbon dioxide, and 17 of the 18 warmest years ever recorded have occurred since 2001.

The rapid and exponential warming of the earth has led to the quick disappearance of ice caps and staggering rise in sea levels. At the current rate, we stand to lose 8 feet of shoreline for every inch of sea level rise.

Climate change and pollution result in massive food scarcity and the need to seek refuge from an environmentally impacted region.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

In 2015, 82% of greenhouse gases was comprised of carbon dioxide, and 17 of the 18 warmest years ever recorded have occured since 2001.
It should be occurred instead of occured.

Please accept my deepest apologies. It has been fixed!
