The easter of Jesus: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. Luke 22:20

The Gospel of Luke tells us about one of the last moments of Jesus on earth, the paschal meal of Jesus with his disciples, and the institution of the eucharist.
Jesus said goodbye to his disciples because he knew he was going to be crucified and in a symbolic way he sealed a new alliance between God and humanity with a piece of bread and a glass full of wine. With this fact, easter acquires a new spiritual meaning for the followers of Jesus, just as easter for the Israelites was the passage from slavery to freedom guided by the prophet Moses; easter for christians means the step towards eternal life promised by Jesus and assisted by the Holy Spirit.
In this way were the words of the Lord Jesus, where he consecrated and blessed the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins and the inheritance of eternal life:
"And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ´This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.´
In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ´This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.´" Luke 22:19-20.
The bread and wine shared by Jesus represent for all christians, the communion, the life in common with God and all the brothers, and the union of all believers in a single spiritual body with Jesus as the head. That is why the wine represents the blood and the bread the flesh of this new spiritual body.
And so with this consecration, our Lord Jesus fulfilled the most perfect law: "´Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.´ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ´Love your neighbor as yourself.´" Matthew 22:37-39.
