Sunshine Chilly Afternoon Snowy March Winds Down

Sunshine Chilly Afternoon Snowy March Winds Down

We are enjoying a mostly sunny afternoon on Long Island but temperatures are struggling thanks to the chilly air mass is overhead. At least this exceptionally snowy month is winding down and we have no noreasters in the near future to worry about. The satellite picture shows a strong storm well to the southeast in the Atlantic which is at least for the time being keeping us nice and dry. The chilly flow from the north continues however so temperatures will be struggling for the next few days.

To the west is low pressure and the next front in the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Warmer air going to try and move eastward on Tuesday so look for a cold night tonight with lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Tuesday clouds will be arriving and increasing as the day goes on with temperatures in the 40s.

Radars are nice and quiet and will remains so through Tuesday. A warm front will approach Tuesday night and Wednesday with clouds and some showers. Temperatures will be held back due to clouds and an onshore wind. Highs Wednesday will be in the 40s. Thursday the warm front should edge northward and highs should reach into the 50s but clouds will be dominating. Late Thursday into Friday morning a cold front moves through with some showers. Drier air follows later Friday with highs in the 50s. Most of the Easter/Passover weekend should be dry but another front will approach later Sunday. For now any showers from this should hold off until late in the day with highs over the weekend in the upper 40s to lower 50s. After this insane month with 4 noreasters and record snowfalls, March looks to go out like a lamb at this point. Whether the lion roars as we head into April remains to be seen.
