Automation: The debate rages on...

in economy •  8 years ago  (edited)

As we "progress" into the future, we have to ask ourselves.. what's becoming real or not?

Many of us here are seeking the truth. We live in a world full of lies and deceit. We are told our government is here to help take care of us; only to see our freedom stripped, and our taxes go up. We are told our money is sound, as long as we borrow into a thick ponzi scheme that can never be repaid. We all know our freedom is slowly being degraded, and we know the value of whatever our currency we use is being inflated.

We try to find solutions to these problems such as cryptocurrency, gold, silver.. but we really do not know what the future holds. I have been told Gold, silver, crypto can all go up in value.. but what would the REAL things cost me. How beneficial is $10,000  Gold or even BTC if a loaf of bread costs $100. Now add to the mix automation..

Next in line is replacing the most important aspect of a working economy. Yes, I am a manufacturer.. and replacing my labor force would greatly reduce my costs (as labor is my biggest one). The employees are older and I have a lot of respect and to a certain extent I am loyal to them as well. They have families to feed. However it's getting harder and harder for me to give them any pay raise, as taxes eat into my profits. Not only that, I still have competition from bigger companies selling at lower prices (government kick backs).

A few years back we were given the option to automate. This would have been an at least $500,000 venture. Maybe I would make up that money, and maybe I wouldn't. In the end, I never went the automation route. Not out of loyalty, and not because of cost savings. No matter how loyal I can be; if I am broke so are my employees. Better to keep 1 then to eliminate everyone (including myself). The automation process was not 100% guranteed so I didn't go through with it in the end.

Looking back, it's really got me thinking; what happens to all the people with JOBS (Just Over Broke)?

Here are some common answers I have heard:

" We become the slaves of automation"

" We’ll work on creating and maintaining the machines that do the work"

" Remember when the calculator was first introduced, at school we weren’t  allowed to use calculators, we didn’t have computers we had to use our  heads. Now just because intelligence is found by computers and  technology, humans forget how to use their heads. We are doomed when we  forget how to use our brains and let machines do our thinking".

" We explore the universe."

Rather then bringing my own conclusions, I always leave my blog open for comments. In my opinion though, it seem the elite really do want population control. One big war, and whoever is left behind will tend to the machines.

Just a thought..

Automation has improved the quality of life for everyone on the planet. We can reap rewards by spending far less time toiling. The argument that automation replaces jobs, this is true. However, it also creates jobs to design, produce and maintain moving parts, software, and hardware upgrades. Automation makes life easier and far more affordable. People act as if this is a new phenomenon, but we've been automating since the industrial revolution.

It's a positive view. As a devils advocate you just have so many people in the world with very low paying jobs doing menial tasks. This would mean education across the board would have to be implemented for such an "automated" economy. To me there would be more poverty then ever as even the people who earn cents would become extinct.

"People with low paying jobs doing menial tasks" - This has been going on for eons and will continue. The poverty that exists won't increase because of automation. The roots are completely different. Also, what is a menial task? In a true free market, wages are determined by output. If it is cheaper to automate, then it makes sense. If it's cheaper to outsource, it makes sense. Poverty exists when government forces artificial prices on us. Subsidies of all sorts as well as mandated wages have done nothing but keep people indentured. Automation is the natural reaction to government interference.

nice
