Final consumer sentiment for May was slightly better than the preliminary data suggested.

We are essentially back to what sentiment was in December.

If there is a silver lining, it is still much higher sentiment than two years ago, which was somehow worse sentiment than the Great Recession and the severe early 1980s recession. Because people have lost their minds.

Michigan consumer sentiment survey data suggests those reliant on the mainstream news media generally have better perceptions of the economy than others. It wasn't my prior at all. At the very least it suggests mainstream media coverage here generally if it has a negative effect is smaller than you'd think.

The same data did note that partisan news (like Fox News) however was associated with much lower sentiment.

It is mostly a mix of Republican partisanship and vibes people weighing down consumer sentiment.
