My position on Universal Health Care:

Not everyone that enlists in the armed services kills. This is a huge misconception. There are a huge amount of jobs that the military employs in any country that never require a weapon be in your hands at all times. Most are enrolled in administrative, food prep or medicinal services.

It is, however, true that the Military preys on the lower class and why not: Its an easy win for them. I myself joined for a couple of reasons. Not having a healthy environment to lay my head was one. Not having a steady means of clothing or feeding myself was another. Also not having any healthcare. This is important.

I joined the Marine Corps for healthcare. Yes, I was that person. My teeth were in shambles after a horrible car accident. I had hit a tree dead on and hit my chin on the top of the steering wheel. My mouth was full of crushed teeth. My nerves were dying and I was forced to push black puss out of my gums. It wasn't long before I was numbing my mouth with whiskey. I needed to get my teeth fixed and fast.

The military saw me coming a mile away. First, it was the Army. I told the recruiter I smoked cannabis so he gave me golden seal to pass the test. Of course, I failed so 6 months later I took my lost soul into the Marine Corps recruiting office. They used every bit of my ego as a street kid against me and I took the job only the fell for the lie of infantry.

At that point in my life, I wouldn't have given me a gun but their I was learning how to kill without a second thought. Of course, I got all my dental work done for free and can't complain about that at all. Marine Corps taught me a responsibility I hadn't envisioned, got me out of Lowell Massachusetts and into another state and taught me a healthy respect for weaponry. It was also my first realization that no matter what you do if you don't do it for yourself, no one will.

It is my firm belief that everything I just mentioned should have been taught at home but my father just wasn't there for me. And really should I have had to join the military to get my teeth fixed? Is my soul worth that little? I think not and I also firmly believe that we should have universal health care so that those who need it will never have to make such a drastic choice to stay alive.
