Part of our curriculum requires daily drawing practice. I was very glad when I find these books to use with the kids since I am not very good at drawing. It includes detailed drawing instructions as well as a few sentences to write for practice. These books are called Draw Write Now and there are eight of them covering different categories.
The kids each pick a book and find a page that they want to try to draw. They use their own paper and draw the item and then write out the sentences. They are great for all ages!
The different books in the series include:
- Book One: On the Far, Kids and Critters, Storybook Characters
- Book Two: Christopher Columbus, Autumn Harvest, The Weather
- Book Three: Native Americans, North America, The Pilgrims
- Book Four: The Polar Regions, The Arctic, The Antarctic
- Book Five: The United States, From Sea to Sea, Moving Forward
- Book Six: Animals and Habitats: On Land, Ponds and Rivers, Oceans
- Book Seven: Animals of the World, Part 1: Forest Animals
- Book Eight: Animals of the World, Part 2: Grassland and Desert Animals
We have all of the books and my kids really enjoy them. Some of them they think are too difficult, but the directions make it pretty easy to at least attempt it! These were designed by an elementary school teacher and are a great way to have daily handwriting and drawing lessons. Each lesson also includes questions, answers and a book list related to each theme. I highly recommend these to supplement other handwriting lessons like Handwriting Without Tears which I posted about last week.
With these books, the children are getting to practice reading the sentences, writing correctly, correct grammar and punctuation, spelling, and drawing! They cover a wide range of necessary skills for any school aged child. There are about twenty lessons per book.
If you are looking for a great writing and drawing practice book, be sure to check these out!

Yes, they're great. You should be able to find a good alternative! They're available on amazon, but it's probably not fun to ship to you like it isn't fun to ship here. ;)
