When Students Control Their Own Education?

in education •  7 years ago

The choice of subject, which student is interested while studying in university, is soberly be debated issue among the proficient educated people all over the world. While some are of the opinion that institution should allow students to take their interested topic, others assert that this should not be encouraged. But I believe students should learn their interested subjects and this trend has to be promoted for their better career and job satisfaction.

There are numerous benefits in acquiring knowledge in the interested and loved the subject. Firstly, studying the favourite subject that helps in gaining meticulous knowledge in the stream they have chosen. Moreover, a student with immense talent and massive erudition can transcend the use of that subject. Secondly, the satisfaction that one gets in dealing with his favourite subject is ineffable. The solution for a problem of unsatisfied job among many employees in the present era is encouraging them towards their interest. Therefore, the students who are passionate on any particular topic can become an employer and can make wonder inventions.

Opponents of such a bane argue against it for following reasons. One of principle reasons for their argument is the demand in present job opportunities. As we observe the jobs that top companies are offering nowadays is in the technology and science.
So many experts suggest in order to fulfill demand of jobs the students need to acquire knowledge of what employee is looking for. The other reason is about earning money. As soon as students come out of an honourable institute they always look for better opportunity.

“The idea of ‘student-centered everything’ is one of those orthodoxies where it’s easy to fall off the end of the cliff,” said Robert Pondiscio, senior fellow and vice president for external affairs at the Thomas B. Fordham Institute in Washington, D.C. “It works a lot better in the content areas than in skills-based instruction like reading comprehension, for example.” Source

For this to happen they need to observe the demand of job in the present market and should keep in their academic learning for their best career growth. Consequently, they can have a safe and better life. However, the people who do what he likes will always present in a better and innovative way which will make them special and expert finally make good money. Revise the sentence.

In my opinion, it seems that both have valuable arguments on each side. It is considered that, one can become expert only if they show keen interest in what they are working. The expertise person will definitely have a demand and better career opportunities. So, the institution should encourage the students’ interests rather than making their career dull and unsatisfied.

I agree and disagree with you. From my experience, I can tell you, that I never imagined I'll be interested in things that I learned in classes which weren't my cup of tea.
For instance in our country, we have so many young people with a high education of their favorite choice, but they can't get a job. The country, I'm living in is seeking young and smart people with education from natural science with so many experiences that they cannot get during the study. And we have so many people, who finished in social science, but cannot get a job, because of all the old people who don't want to retire.
I think for a student it's great, that you are learning things that you love to do and you have fun doing it, but at the same time, you narrow your possibilites for employment in so demanding world that we are living now. So I must say, that it never hurts to learn something new. Who says that the education is the limitation for future?

Students should chose their favorite subjects and stick to them. There are always opportunities available for future jobs. Nice post @dcryptp

Extraordinary guide and tips. its so accommodating :)

If we choose our own subject we work on that wholeheartedly. Yes, choice of subject is a right for the student for his education. After reading your post I remembered the movie, 3 IDIOTS. I hope you are aware of 3 idiots movie, have you watched it? Great post bro Keep it Up!

Like the idea behind that yes it is much required to be part of the curriculum and let the students be taking charge of it to gain the meticulous knowledge. @dcrypto

I think this is very important for students that they should discover theirself and follow their dreams. In such a days students have more oppertunities for education. Google and youtube are a great source of education @dcrypto.

Great guide and tips. its so helpful :)

In as much as students need to go for subjects they are comfortable with, there is need for career guidance. Popular subjects are competitive in the job market, a wise choice is a valuable investment!

Love this article. Education in creativity and career development is absolutely lack in my homeland, and even including investment knowledge training.

I also believe that a student should be allowed to directly study what he or she is directly interested in. However, I think it is equally important that the desire to learn a skill or subject can be directly applied in the marketplace.

So, a student may decide to explore his or her skills and interests while remaining aware of the ability to transfer those skills and knowledge to ultimately produce an income.

That great post...thanks so much...

The entire notion of education is flawed as we know it . Firstly , it's very expensive esp in western countries , long degrees , that can be taught in shorter times and most importantly , we are being taught the sans things .. with the same intended outcomes !!! . We also are being taught lies ( historically speaking ) . A lot of the Ivy League and elite universities are tied at deep levels to banks and political parties , countries and covert agencies !

i totally agree with this idea students have to choose what they really like ,the world now is like people has converted to machines just to stay alive ,and with this idea planted in the new generation more student will just hate their lives ,but if they want to do what they are really love creativity and fun will be the main target they want to achieve and thats what society needs ,but also in my opinion the student have to choose what he loves in a certain age to give him the proper time to discover himself .
i hope this idea really happen

we know what we want and want to do so we should be allowed to do what we love. those who go far are the passionate one who do what they love . i love your post
