I had an epiphany about STEEM and Education this evening

When my son Edward was first starting on STEEM he was struggling for content and posted some notes he cadged from his girlfriend:

Bioremediation is the use of microbes in the environment to clean up contaminated soil and groundwater. There are many techniques to achieve bioremediation, some which are more complex than others

The success of bioremediation is dependant on the contaminant properties and site characteristics for the most part.

This wasn't necessarily a bad thing as it turns out because it got me thinking about something. A number of months ago I had a brief discussion having to do with the aggregation on knowledge specifically where it applies to scientific research. There is an issue that scientific papers end up behind pay walls but also a secondary issue that papers get reported in less then reputable "periodicals" so that they get published without proper peer review. This was before I knew about STEEM.

I have another project that I am consulting with having to allow course content to be put onto the STEEM blockchain or a subset of the blockchain using a Smart Media Token (SMT). The same concept could be used to deal with publishing research papers. These papers could be stored on the blockchain and could peer reviewed (by upvoting and commenting). This would put all research on a searchable distributed blockchain which would not be subject to censorship (aside from the mechanism inherent in the steem protocol).

Additionally courses could be set up with course projects being posted on the Blockchain. The students would then reply to the post and they could discuss the merits of each person's response. When I was teaching my expectation was that everyone would get 100 percent and those who didn't meet that level was a failing on my part - I was unable to train them well enough. Any student would be able to see their response in conjunction with others in the class - giving them an opportunity to improve their understanding of the content.
