Education on How to deal with feelings

More and more people these days suffer from depression. What are your thoughts on the root of this problem? These are mine...

To be successful in life is still defined by earning a lot of money. Anyone who seems to think differently is instantly labeled as a dumb or crazy person. But what if you are happy or at peace with a life that is not focussed on money. Wouldn't it be great to know that this is an option that is accepted in our society?

After having a burn out or a recovery of depression, most people find their 'calling' in life. They start to think outside of the indoctrination of having to think rational and start listening to their feelings.

It would be awesome to start earlier in life with the knowledge on how to deal with and listen to your own feelings. And knowing how to find the balance between rational thinking and listening to your emotions.

Would it make life easier or more bearable? Isn't it time to think about adding 'How to deal with feelings' as a subject in school?

I totally agree with you here and I think denying feelings and emotions is the core of most mental health problems.

To be honest I don't think schools have it in their DNA to start teaching this. It's an authoritarian atmosphere. And many teachers don't feel safe enough to be open and honest and share their feelings and emotions with a class.
