ommensurate funding would in my opinion, improve the education system by about 99%. Even at that,it'll take about 10 years to see any significant change,as the sector has suffered for since forever!
The following are ways-,arranged in order, beginning from the most important- in which the funds should be used:
-Improvement of the salaries and welfare of teachers, which in turn would attract the most intelligent and qualified personnel, which in turn improves the teaching process, and the quality of students.
-professional teacher training:where teachers are taught on how to be good teachers.
-upgrading of the infrastructure, equipping the labs/workshop/hostels/classrooms/libraries. The environment has to be conducive to learning.
a revamp of the curriculum and implementation of it to the later.
-and since the language of instruction in Nigeria is English,it is imperative that students learn grammar(to learn to properly express themselves and convey what it is the are saying in an unambiguous manner),comprehension(to be able to understand written and spoken English),composition(the ability to write in a clear concise manner to convey meaning),without which they'll struggle to understand all other subjects. So English subject should be given extra importance.
Others still, which is related to the Nigerian society and not in any way connected to funding is the emphasis on certificates, and not necessarily the skills one has,has led to people wanting to score high grades at all cost, hence resorting to malpractice! True learning and not certificates or even grades should be emphasized.
Lastly, executive support from the government. The government must really want to see the sector succeed, and should do all writhing it's capacity to ensure that…. By a timely release of,and proper monitoring of the sector to ensure all is going as planned.
For the records, the United Nations specified that at least 26% of a country's budget be voted for education, without which no meaningful improvement would be seen. As it stands now,the fraction is less that 10%! Until then, were stuck with a continuously declining sector.
