Getting a degree is a long term investment, because the knowledge you acquire in school is what will help you earn a living. These days certain degrees have become more valuable than others, so it's important to study the right program so that you don't remain jobless.

There are certain degrees that have no importance in this modern era, so you will do well to avoid such programmes, as studying them might make it difficult for you to get a job. Don't get me wrong, no knowledge is useless, but if your aim is to get a job, then its advisable you study that's relevant in this modern times.

Here are some the most relevant degrees in modern times

1. Medical Sciences

These includes doctors, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, medical laboratory scientists. Surgeons tend to rank highest on this list, as the average surgeon earns about $350,000 annually. becoming a medical practitioner does take significant amount of time, but the investment pays off once you get job.

2. Engineering

You need engineers to build roads, bridges, cars, computers e.t.c, civilization cannot thrive without engineers. The various fields in engineering includes mechanical, electrical, electronics, chemical, petroleum, computer e.t.c.

3. Computer Science and IT

The world has become a global village, and the advent of computers have made the world even smaller. Companies are looking for individuals who with very strong IT skills. A degree in computer science provides the following career opportunities:

  • Web design
  • Graphic design
  • Database management
  • Software development
  • Network administration
  • Game development

4. Law

The growth of entrepreneurship has led to a high demand of lawyers. Companies need lawyers to help them manage contracts, handle litigation and other legal issues. In most countries lawyers earn a decent pay. Some areas of specialization for law includes:

Na this kind post put some of us inside trouble for school. Just cos it may seem lucrative doesn't matter. It isn't the degree one has but one's passion and struggle (and let's not forget long leg)

Sha no course is relevant or irrelevant. What's important is to study what you love, have the right skills and pray to God or hope goodness will come if one doesn't believe in God.

@learnandteach01, i feel you. Though its important to study what you love, but you have to consider whether your degree is relevant in today's world. Don't study a course that would keep in you in the labour market longer than your mates
