Which insect has the longest life span?

Which insect has the longest life span? If you think of all the insects you've encountered, what would your guess be? A spider? A locust? No? Well, as it turns out, the longest insect can live well over fifty years!

The insect we're talking about is actually the queen termite, which is known to live 50 years or more. This is absolutely mind-blowing for an insect, reaching almost 3/4th's of human life-span. These insects are closely followed by the wood beetle which can live up to 40 years, then the 17 year locusts.

Most bugs we come across have life spans of only one year, often being seasonal insects that are born, live their lives in order to reproduce, and then die off. Their offspring will then continue the cycle.
