Is education truly the best legacy?

To many, the scope of education is limited to the four walls of  classroom. And, this ideology is mostly prevalent in Africa.  Education is an act or process of teaching someone, especially in a school, university or college (Merriam Webster dictionary, 2018©).

Education is of two major types- formal and informal.

I'm sure we all are very familiar with the former. Informal education on the other hand, has to do with teaching vocational or soft skills like carpentry, tailoring, photography, etc...and it does not require a formal setting.

Now, that's that!

Now, Is education truly the best legacy?

It is no news that our world is ever-changing. At the very least, our world is not what it used to be a decade ago, and obviously, a decade from now, the story would have changed.

In an age where scientific and technological advancements are largely the economic drivers in many climes around the globe, the usefelness of  education cannot be overemphasized. We find ourselves in a dispensation, where information is fast becoming the only true currency in the global market. Education offers you a portal of vast information. As a matter of fact, education arms you with information, and this affords you the opportunity to maintain relevance throughout the changing climates.

So Yes!...I have no doubt, education is truly the best legacy. Education is a force for good, as it is able to transform an uncouth, brutish person to be civil; to grant the human mind access to a world of infinite possibilities (simply put, to emancipate the human mind) ,....and the list runs on and on. ..there is something disturbing though,.....

I cannot ignore the fact that in many climes, the perception about education is a little sloppy. In third-world nations like Nigeria, the dividends expected from  education is unnecessarily exaggerated.

More often than not, the kind of benefit expected thereof is in monetary terms.Of course, the formal education setting affords one the opportunity to build good relationships and establish  solid network, especially for future purpose. Notwithstanding, i feel that there is a need to educate people rightly. Simply put, education helps you to harvest your God-given potentials. It does not necessarily give you anything that you didn't already have.

Ещё Пифагор сказал: образование можно разделить с другим человеком , дав его другому и самому не утратить его,и вообще именно образованием отличаются люди от животных ,а эллины – от варваров, свободнорожденные – от рабов, а философы – от простых людей.
