Professionalism -"the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person"-Merriam Webster
The rise to maturity in any field is characterized by so many factors which may include: passion, environment, Who you follow, skills learnt, experience acquired, and so on (the list continues). However, to get to a certain level of maturity in any field thereby becoming a "professional", there are certain things one must note. I picked these up sometime ago. You may be familiar with them;
- You have to learn the foundation/the basics.
- It's not all about the company you work with but the boss you follow.
- You are permitted to make mistakes that way can be corrected and you can learn from them.
- Pay attention to details.
- If you find yourself repeating those mistakes, reevaluate yourself.
- Learn the secrets of the profession.
- Learn skills in that field.
- Never stop learning (Learn, unlearn and relearn)
- Be open to new ideas.
- Strengthen your values in the process of the above mentioned.
- know your worth.
There are many more things to be considered on one's way to becoming a professional in any field but these are my thoughts. But don't forget to do what works for you.
