I read this week about a case where a student loan of $85.000 for a designer degree landed a person a $22.000 job in a non related business. And by the detailed explanation of the article it was not because of a lack of interest or capability but because of the lack of opportunities.
Was the education worth the time and financial investment?
While globalization has been slowly reducing the scale of professional jobs available in the market nobody seems to put together a well thought plan about how we will deal with this ongoing situation.
Perhaps is time to evaluate how is our society going to evolve based on this tendency and adapt our ancestral education system.
Are our kids starting too early with heavy and non needed subjects?
Shouldn't we focus more on social sciences, arts and sports on the early age?
Clearly technology as an instrument helped to reduce invaluable time to several of our most common professions. Accounting system to accountants, planning and budgeting systems, etc
Is the length of our education too long ?
Careers will probably need to be reshaped and while to keep a client (creating debt) for several years seems ideal for schools it is not anymore benefitial and this what the reality shows us today.
For a great number of graduates education is not anymore giving the return that it is socially expected and because of this we should adapt.
