Marking Criteria:
Writing tasks are marked by very experienced and expert examiners as per detailed criteria. The two tasks are marked separately and each is given a band score from 0 to 9. Task 2 carries more weightage than task 1. Task 2 accounts for 2/3 of your overall writing score and task 1 accounts for 1/3.

For Example; If there are four countries given in line graph then you are advised to talk about all the common trends and comparisons amonh all four countries without living any one out of them.
• Task Response (Task 2):
Here examiner look whether you have addressed all the parts of given statement or not. Are your ideas supports by examples and reasons? Did you stick to the topic? Have you written at least 250 words?
Coherence and cohesion:
In this criteria a candidate need to write coherently with proper cohesive devices. For example: is your response written organized in proper logical way? How smoothly your ideas are flowing? Moreover, paragraphing is done properly? How effectively you have used linking words and phrases?
Lexical Resources:
As wide range of vocabulary is one of the most impressive part of writing skill; therefore, a candidate is required to show wide range of vocabulary accurately and appropriately. Are you able to use formal words, following by task oriented vocabulary? Most importantly, correct spellings of words help examiner to understand your ideas that ends up in good scoring.
Grammatical range and accuracy:
The candidate’s proficiency to use wide range of sentence structure is assessed here. Have you used simple sentences only? Do you know how to write accurate compound and complex sentences? How flexible you are in using all kinds of sentence structure. Is the grammar of your sentences generally accurate. Here every candidate should understand that his written words are the way of communication between him and examiner. Each of these four criteria gets 0 to 9 points. After that, an arithmetic mean is calculated to determine the total score of the work.
