I Present It Today's Article
Often, each teaching material has its own strategy. For example, in mathematics students are more often used to do exercises.
The memorization method for mathematical calculations is rarely done by teachers. Meanwhile, the lesson is more from reading, storytelling, word games, and memorizing new terms. Although the method of exercise or work is also in context, but the weight is smaller than the mathematics lesson.
One method with another method supports each other by serving each. Is there a strategy in mathematics lessons? Surely there is because we must have known the story and usually a student who doesn't like it. Language learning to deal with problems. Or vice versa, someone who really likes stories can be easier.
Due to the diversity of character and intelligence of students, teachers who are good at storytelling with them will be more profitable. The condition is that the story cannot come out of the material from the core of learning. So, is it really fun to tell a story or is it boring?
For Mandatory language there must be a story, specifically for language learning. The method of storytelling will greatly help students to develop their language skills. Students without realizing it have practiced the language they expressed. Compared just by memorizing each vocabulary, it will certainly be more effective if the side vocabulary by students is like in the story.
We can notice that both in the Indonesian language and Indonesian language there are always stories. Unfortunately, the background can only be read together by filling in the questions. Often users only see the structure of the sentence and override the message in the story.
What would be great to repeat students to tell them in their own language? The themes found by some modern pesantren in Aceh.
Named the "muthala'ah" lesson, which means studying, this lesson only contains Arabic language stories contained in it with many lessons. This lesson includes the main lessons that must be mastered by students in the pesantren. For ordinary people, they might think about how to understand Arabic stories that have absolutely no meaning? Does the teacher or cleric translate the story? The answer is not at all.
The strategy usually used by the teacher is to provide information or messages related to the title of the story so that students guess the title itself. If the student answers in Indonesian, the teacher will guide him to use Arabic. Minimally or not at all the teacher uses Indonesian.
After giving the title, usually, the teacher will give Mufradat or meaning vocabulary that is not yet known by students. However, the vocabulary is not interpreted in Indonesian but it is still with Arabic words that have the same meaning. Only the teacher tells or explains the story in the book. When everything has been explained by the teacher, the student is assigned to recount it in front of his friends. Besides training
linguistic intelligence also trains students' confidence. And in this Muthala'ah lesson students get wisdom that can develop effective intelligence. Of course, this Muthalaah lesson does not exist at all in the national exams or university entrance exams.
So, why do students in Islamic boarding schools have to master and understand the contents of the story in the lesson? The reason is, we know the purpose of education is not only to enter a favourite university or just to pass the State Examination. Education is to build the mind, physical, and soul of the student so that he becomes a person who knows his concept.
With a storytelling learning strategy, students feel engrossed and do not feel patronized by the advice that the teacher actually wants to infiltrate. Students themselves are trying to take lessons or goals from the story. While the teacher is only a facilitator, guiding and directing students. It will be very good, if before the lesson begins, the teacher explains the benefits so that students know the purpose of learning something.
The teacher can tell through examples or facts found on the field so that learning is more fun and enjoyable. If possible the teacher also asks his students to share the difficulties or interests of the theme being taught. How to teach muthala'ah is just one example. Muthola'ah lessons are usually a favourite lesson for students in pesantren. Easy and fun. Hopefully, all the lessons can be fun.
