We all know that education is essential for everyone's success, unfortunately the current schooling system is not helping at all! How can we turn the current educational system into something powerful and meaningful?. We have to start by the goal, what would the perfect school look like? Let's start.
Features of an ideal school
- Personalized education according to one's own nature (varnāśrama).
- Peaceful environment
- No distractions (drugs, alcohol, opposite sex)
- Teachers are very knowledgeable, patient, sober and humble (only brāhmaṇas)
- Students learn about God without being forced into any particular religion
- Includes musical and creative training
- Learn to become self-sufficient: plant vegetables, grow grains and fruit trees
- Education is free. Books and study materials are given freely to each student.
- Each student has its own pace, without having to go faster or slower than any other student.
Try to compare each of these points with the schools and systems that you know of. How far are they from this ideal? In my case, they are very very far. So, how will we fix the problem? There's a great opportunity available in countries that allow homeschooling. Here's a practical example that currently works:
Mexico's educational system sparking an educational revolution worldwide
There's a government program that currently supports children in rural areas, to help them study elementary school. The government provides the books and materials for free. Nine books in total, one by one, the child studies them and presents an exam to obtain the next one. Since each student has its own rhythm, it allows each student to go faster or slower according to his particular situation. Once all 9 books are finished, an examination is made and a government backed certificate is emitted.
The government allows the student to study at any time, any place, in any location. Since all the tests are simply evaluations of knowledge, there is no need for any other proof of knowledge but knowledge itself. No need to memorize boring topics, nor is there a need to be on time everyday on a certain classroom. It gives plenty of freedom for each child to decide if they want to study or not. And this creates the kind of freedom that will make kids develop and mature on their own.
So, what we did, is create a homeschool environment where the kids in the rural area can learn English, computers and the standard Spanish reading and math skills. There's no distractions, no drugs, and education about God is included, without being sectarian. Since the girls are a common target for sexual abuse in rural areas, we encourage that all girls should study at home under the protection of her parents and family. The government also supplies all the books and materials to them.
Since the education is personalized, each kid is taught on their particular nature. There are four main kinds of social roles in the vedic system, each kid belongs to one of them. One role for example is called "ksatriya" which means "the one who protects". A ksatriya is trained since very young to be a servant of the people, in the form of a policeman, firefighter, politician, judge or any other similar roles. By early introduction to these professions, the child can easily develop its own nature.
We believe that by combining all the elements of an ideal school in one single place, there will be a very powerful effect on society and the future of the educational systems worldwide.
