What makes other students get higher grades than others in school?
It’s simple, students who get higher grades study smart while those who score average study hard.
See, no matter how many hours you dedicate to your studies, if you don’t know how to study smart, all the effort and time you put into your studies go to waste.
But I don’t want you to go that way. That’s why in this article, I’m going to share with you practical tips on how to study smart according to research.
Let’s get started.
Learn How to Seek Help
Smart students have mastered the art of seeking help when they have too much to handle or when things don’t go as planned.
One of the reasons why some students struggle to accomplish their work or get better grades is their lack of confidence. And sometimes some students don’t have enough knowledge about the topic they are asked to write about. For me, I will pay someone to do my assignment so that I can have enough time to study and engage in other activities.
Incorporate Different Learning Methods to Understand the Same Information
When it comes to learning, there are almost infinite ways of grasping the same information. Multiple studies suggest that using different learning methods to understand the same information helps to trigger the brain. This helps you to understand the information better.
The good news is that there are many ways to learn a specific topic or subject. You could read your class notes, and the textbook, use online resources, watch online videos, teach someone, etc.
Mind Where You Sit in Class
Students who sit at the front of the class tend to perform better than those who sit at the back of all other students. When you sit at the front, there is probably no word the teacher will speak that will slip through your ears. Besides, you will be able to hear the teacher clearly and participate actively in discussions.
Avoid Multitasking
While this is hard to do, especially if you have a lot of things to study, multi-tasking can do more harm than good to your studies.
Multiple studies have shown a correlation between multitasking and decreased productivity. When you multitask, you get easily distracted and this can affect your studies. As a rule, you should focus on one thing at a time. Avoid studying while watching TV, or scrolling through your social media accounts.
To avoid multitasking, switch off your phone or put it away, block notifications from social media and emails, declutter your study area, and ensure there is no distraction.
Test Yourself Frequently
Self-testing is one of the smartest ways of studying that can help you improve your academic performance. Instead of passively reading your class notes or textbook, try to create quizzes and do as many practice questions as you can when preparing for a test.
Keep the Laptop Away and Write By Hand
Using your laptop can seem like a great way to study but it can also hurt your ability to study well. Learning using your laptop is sometimes not effective due to the constant online distractions you get.
Taking notes by hand, on the other hand, helps students to process and reframe the information which helps them perform better in exams and tests.
There are many ways to study smart. How do you study or how have your study techniques helped you improve your performance?
