It doesn't take very long for a small problem to become a serious problem.

Electrical upgrades worth the money:

Breakers panels to replace fuse panels. Fuse panels are normally 40 years old or older. Many fuse panels have more circuits than they were designed to service. 40 years ago the electrical demands of most houses was a 3rd of even the most basic homes today. Upgrading to a breaker panel will, many times, provide enough branch circuits to properly protect your house.

GFI outlets. If you have a outlet that is close to water or might become wet. Replace it with a Ground Fault outlet. This outlet is designed to help protect you from being electrocuted. In the event of a gound fault event, the outlet will de-energize ti stop the flow of electrons. Another use is replacing 2 prong outlets with GFI outlets. Even if the branch circuit does not have a ground, a GFI will provide the same kind of protection that a 3 prong outlet is designed to provide. Another plus is you do not havd to break the ground prong off power strips or other appliance cords (they are there for a reason, don't do this)
