A. What is meant by ladder diagram PLC programming? Draw a ladder diagram and explain.

Ladder diagram is a programming language, it is a PLC that is used. And this is a graphical programming method. It looks like an electric circuit. It is used in industrial automation systems.

Characteristics of Ladder Diagram:-
  • Displays the functions of electronics devices such as switches, lights, sensors.
  • It's basically empty.
  • Each ladder diagram has a momentum at the top, and a ground rail at the bottom.
Example of ladder diagram:
  • A system where there is a start switch and a stop switch, when the start switch is pressed, a motor will start, and if the stop switch is pressed, the motor will stop."

B. Write the work by drawing the symbols of the input and output elements of the ladder diagram.


Normal Open Contract:-

It is in the open state, used for the start button. Pressing the Start button turns on the output. Closes after certain conditions are met.


Normal Closed Contract:-

The steps to convert the electrical wiring diagram into a ladder diagram are presented below:-

  • The power supply should be presented in two vertical lines.

  • Each horizontal line represents a control circuit.

  • Input devices, buttons, switches, etc. should be presented on the left side of each color.

  • Output device coil, relay, etc. should be presented on the right side of each color.


E. Solar power is generated in your home with three 12-volt 100 AH batteries. An additional 12-volt 100 AH battery needs to be connected as your home's electrical load increases. Explain the series and parallel connection of four batteries with diagrams.

The series and connection of four 12 volt 100 Ah batteries are explained below:-

  1. Series connection: Here the batteries are connected to each other. Connected from one positive terminal to another negative terminal.

:- Voltage 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 48 volts
Ampere hours will remain unchanged.

  1. Parallel connection: Here the positive terminals of the batteries are connected.
    And at the same time the negative terminal is connected. However, ampere hours are added even if the voltage remains unchanged.

:- The voltage will remain unchanged.
Ampere hour: -100 + 100 + 100 + 100 = 400 ampere hours.
