The Elves named themselves as Quendi, they are known as the Eldar and they are the first children of Eru Ilúvatar. They're deemed the fairest and wisest race of Arda.
Elves do not grow old and are impervious to illnesses and they can only be killed in combat or can die due to extreme despair.
