I Have Just Received My Steemit Invite, Say What?

invite

No, this is not a joke! I have literally just received an email inviting me to join Steemit. I was a bit surprised at first, after all here I am, a member of this community for a month and a half already. Then I remembered that before joining with Facebook I have actually tried registering by just giving my email address (don't like to signup everywhere with a Facebook account). So apparently I was on some waiting list and now finally got an invitation to register by email... I believe that you can still only register if you have either a Facebook account or a Reddit one with positive comment karma... or wait a month and a half to get an invitation to join by email.

I know that Steemit is targeting users from other social media platforms such as Facebook and Reddit, but then again not being able to register immediately by giving just your email address is really not Ok at this point. Also remember that not everyone may be using Facebook or Reddit, and having to register on Facebook so that you can just register on Steemit is kind of stupid, don't you think. Then you cannot even do that with a new Reddit registration, you need to start using the website and get some positive comment karma and that can take some time. Why would anyone register on either of these if not using them already just to be able to join Steemit, well, because otherwise you will have to wait. I'm glad I did not wait to get my invitation to join just by email, otherwise I may have even ignored that message as I may have already moved past my initial interest in Steemit from a month and a half if I did not actually start to use it back then.

Now I'm wondering... should I join Steemit or not... oh! wait I already did that :D

Got a invite too today. My first thought was that is was a scam or virus but after I checked the link I'm now a member of the Steemit community :D

Nice to not have to get a Reddit or Facebook account to join

Welcome to Steemit - have fun ...

Welcome to Steemit then.

Yes welcome! Bounce around and learn from tutorials before you do your first post.. Here's some things I wish I'd known :

  1. You cannot edit a post after 24 hours (called "the first payout" here).
  2. You might make over $1,000 on your Introduce Yourself post, so STUDY Steemit awhile and do it right. you won't get a second chance.
  3. While good FAQs are still being formed, almost every question you'll have right off can be answered via a Google search. You might have to add the word Steemit to your question, and pay attention to the date of the answer, as everything is changing right now.
I'm following you now and will try to watch for/upvote your early posts as I see them in my feed to help you out. By the way, with the new rules, you have virtually no "power" right now so might find posting and voting difficult at first (as my real life friends new this week are experiencing). It's largely to put the kibosh on spammers and spammers.
What you CAN do now, is follow people (and you should - go to the lists of people you like and check out and maybe follow whom they do at first, as doing so will populate your feed) and you can also comment, as you just learned. Commenting and upvoting will increase both your "power" and your reputation score. These are essential for attracting followers yourself, who might eventually upvote you and your comments, thus giving you the influence you need to post, upvote, etc.
Have fun! Steemit is hard to understand at forst and very easy to ovethink. If you're not having fun and making great personal connections via commenting, you're not doing it right. Don't try to make money at first or yuo will lose focus and burn out. It's a social network - so be social!

Now log in and get to work! Lol.

Will do... :)

That is so funny. I couldn't get in at first either

I got that too. Do they even have our email linked to the account? It's weird having no profile page to set things up, but then we get no notifications from the site. Maybe that will come in time. I'm using Steemification to notify me of replies etc

They do at least if you register with Facebook, not sure about Reddit...
Having the ability to at least change your email might be good.
