It seems there is fair use senarios regarding copyright. From what I can gather to sample a few seconds is reasonable but to play the whole video would seem not.
This would make embedding a video created by someone else, without permission, difficult as the whole video is played, even if the source is credited.
Secondly, if one was to make Steem Dollars from the post would one be obligated to pay royalties etc? This would be difficult if not impossible in many cases.
Well, my understanding of the law is that if you embed a YouTube video into your Steemit article or post, then you are not violating any copyright laws inasmuch as you are sending business in the direction of the person who owns the copyright to that video. However, if you download that same video on your website, then you are violating the law inasmuch as the content creator is not benefiting from it in any manner and is, in fact, losing business. I'm still researching this topic, but I am glad that you have brought it up inasmuch as the law on this appears to be so vague.
