Work:
Really good calls this week; I will talk about some of the ones that stand out. I will stay HIPPA Compliant where you cannot associate these calls with anyone in particular: No personal info will be revealed.
Drug use:
Had to break down a door of a bathroom because a family member said they were in there for a really long time and not responding. Found a guy sitting on the toilet; pulseless and not breathing. Had drug paraphernalia on the counter of the sink. Pulled him out; started CPR. Blood Sugar was so low the machine would not read it. IV placed; epinephrine; Narcan and Sugar pushed. But no changes. He had been down too long before we got to him.
Bad Parenting:
This one started similar to the call above that I showed up to a man passed out in a public restroom. An attendant opened the door for me and found a man sitting on the toilet; alive but unconscious. Pale and sweaty; I woke him up. He said he was just tired and accidentally fell asleep. The employee of the business said the guy parked and left his kids in the car; they were very young and went into the bathroom where he has been for over 2 hours. The man asked if he could have privacy to clean himself up; I stood in the doorway and heard him messing around with the trash can - obviously dumping his stash. Bring him outside and he starts getting aggressive. I'm not the police but they are on their way so I can't get physical unless he is completely out of line and attacks me. But he quickly learns that we wont use force and walks to his vehicle. I motion to my partner to lock the guys car - he says "One step ahead of you - Already did." This guy opens the front door and I'm actually scared at this point because
first:
I thought the door was locked
second:
He is irrational and I thought he was getting a gun. Then we are all fucked.
Luckily someone distracted him and he closed the door for a second. The door was remotely locked to keep him out. He looks at his kids and then turns around and runs down the street. An employee ran after him; not sure what his plan was. Once again; I am not a police officer and it isn't worth going after someone and getting hurt. I would like to go home to my family at the end of the day. So the police took over and I have no end to this story. Kinda funny and kinda sad... mainly sad and I feel bad for those kids.
Arm break:
Had a kid who reached for the monkey bars while at school and fell on his right arm. Broke both the radius and ulna at the wrist; also broke the humerous and the bone is sticking through the skin at the wenis. Wenis is a real medical term for the opposite side of the arm as the elbow. Splinted together; this guy was tough. I did give pain medication with the consent of the mother. Confirmed 3 breaks by the X-rays at the hospital. I promised to sign his cast.
