François Truffaut has revolutionized the French film during 1958~1963 with film criticism magazine『Cahiers du cinéma』. He argued that the traditional film was covering the view of the public and that the film should be divided into high quality traditions and politics of author‘s film. The public did not fully understand the new films like Jean Renoir, Robert Bresson's films, that emerged at the time. Truffaut pointed out that the audience should have a new critical perspective.
Right after the article “Certain trend of French films" written by Truffaut was published in『Cahiers du cinéma』, the French New Wave started. In this article, Truffaut rejects the peaceful coexistence of 'the tradition of quality' and 'author’s film', and as 'auteur', he said that the director should take a strict stance on his films.
