Endometriosis and Lupron - The Side Effects

in endometriosis •  7 years ago

As I previously mentioned, I'm currently on my second (and final) round of Lupron (each being a three month process). Recall, Lupron is a medication often prescribed to patients with Endometriosis. It puts your body in a menopausal state to prevent endometrial tissue growth which overall is supposed to eliminate pain (for me it hasn't helped at all). I also take the ad-back medication Norlutate (helps eliminate the side effects of the Lupron).

My first round was what I expected - weight gain (about 5 pounds), increased acne (I already have ridiculously sensitive and oily skin, so this was no fun. No matter what I did and continue to do, my acne won't go away), back pain (lower back, almost all the time), exhaustion (often taking two naps a day and going to bed before 9:00PM), mood swings (holy moody swings - I went through being happy, sad, angry, and bothered all within 30 seconds), depression (terrible, random spurts of extreme depression, all I wanted to do was cry), and an uncomfortable sex life (the medication mixed with the endometriosis caused sex to hurt basically all the time).

My second round, which I began September 24, 2017 (today is October 10, 2017) just worsened even more. I'm hungry ALL THE TIME (I used to be a "bird" eater - I never ate much), I need to pee ALL THE TIME (prior I would pee maybe 5 times a day and never at night, now I wake up twice in the middle of the night alone and that's after peeing before bed), my acne remains, back pain remains (and is worse), I'm exhausted still but about half the amount I was on my first round (I make it through the day without napping!), I no longer have mood swings (thank god), the depression is only once in a while and nowhere near how bad it was the first round, sex is the same, I'm experiencing skin reactions to the Lupron (small, solid, red bumps that cover my chest and top of my back. They hurt and are occasionally itchy, not to mention they take FOREVER to go away), and my nails which were once stronger than ever are now con caving in the middle and tearing themselves apart.

Because my pain remains and is getting worse again, my Gynecologist is putting me on a strong birth control in January (which will keep my body in a menopausal state). Third times the charm .... Right? I hope.
