Key Scripture: There was no end to the rejoicing among the people, since the disgrace effected by the gentiles had been effaced(1 Maccabees 4:58).
THOUGHTS
Sorrow may endure through the night, but in the morning there will be joy. The Jewish believers held on to their God, refusing to compromise. In the end, the Lord turned their sorrow into joy. There was no end to their rejoicing. God took away the disgrace the gentiles placed on them and filled their lives with joy. Joy is one of the gifts God gives to believers – one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Christians are supposed to be people who are characterized by an overflowing, amazing, abundant joy – joy that knows no limits and is beyond all explanation. It is a joy that is not dependent on circumstances; it is a joy that wells from the presence of God. It is truly the plan of God to give us this type of joy. Joy is very important. Romans 14:17 says "Kingdom of God is not about food and drink… but about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." Material things will not give you joy. It is only the presence of God that can.
