Jesus and his enemies: For they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God. John 12:43

The Gospel of John tells how was the last public speech of Jesus after his glorious entry into the city of Jerusalem.
And as in all his speeches about the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's excellencies, Jesus showed the difference between true faith and disbelief, because many were those who approached Jesus simply out of curiosity or to hear comforting words but without any intention of putting into practice this spiritual Kingdom that was to transform the world.
And Jesus announced to men the new promise, no longer based on a material kingdom or a country as it was with Moses, Canaan, but on that spiritual gift that makes men true children of God, the gift of eternal life: "Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life" John 12:25. For Lord Jesus, eternal life was not something in the afterlife but a reward in this life, the contemplative life.
And the people faced with this speech did not understand the true depth of the message because they expected a Messiah related to the things that men naturally value, and the enemies of Jesus, in love with the worldly things, were lurking. And with this, the gospel of John taught that good intentions are not enough, the call of the Kingdom of God announced by Jesus goes beyond this.
And as a conclusion to this speech, the gospel showed that not only the enemies of Jesus were a problem, but also all those people who did not have enough fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion) to live that divine love that Jesus taught:
"Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God" John 12:42-43.
