OR...why we don't drive electric cars
......................................................................................................................................................................
Gasoline gallon equivalent
  • Gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE) or gasoline-equivalent gallon (GEG) is the amount of alternative fuel it takes to equal the energy content of one liquid gallon of gasoline
    .
    Electricity = 33.40 kilowatt-hours
that's 33,400 watts for one hour
    .
    What? No..that's WATT = POWAH = amperage x volts.
    .
a typical battery is 100 ampere hour..that's 100 amps for one hour
....if it's a 12 volt battery that would be 1200 watts for one hour.
    .
    do the math
    33,400 / 1200 = 27.8333333 batteries,
fully charged are the equivalent to one gallon of gasoline
    a typical 100 amp/hr battery

    .
    cost $159 weighs 58.9 lbs. x 27.83333 = 1639.3833333 lbs and $4,452
(plus tax..and the tax is a LOT)
    gasoline on the other hand
1 gallon weighs about 6.3 lbs.....in Texas it cost about two bux.
    .
it takes a few minutes to fill the tank with gas.
    my pickup

takes twenty gallons (32,780 pounds of battery power equivalent)
It has a range of 'about' 300 miles. (it get's about 14 mpg)
the gasoline equivalent battery......heh. ..that would be 'about' fourteen miles.
it takes several HOURS to completely recharge the batteries.
    .
    Any questions?

From the peanut gallery
"but..but..that's not fair...
...lithium battery and stuff..."
(sigh...google)
.
Glad you axed that question

.
Price PRICE: $1,299.99 (each)
weight : 28 lbs.
gallon of gasoline equivalent
27 x $ 1,299.99= $35,099.73
weight = 27 x 28 = 756 Lbs..
.
Seems reasonable to me...why not go out and by a few?

Tesla and Panasonic are changing the battery game. You sound like a buggy whip manufacturer heckling the fad called the automobile.

why do you say that. Tell me ONE thing that I said that was incorrect...tell me ONE point where I spoke of what MIGHT be instead of what IS.

I would say what YOU sound like but I'm much too polite.

I do have a question. Why is the lead-acid battery your chosen comparison for energy storage? Don't get me wrong, I fully understand the sheer utility of internal combustion engine technology and the widespread infrastructure supporting it, but it seems like you have stacked the deck in your favor, so to speak.

The lithium batteries used by the electric bus my company has on the road right now can save
$400 000 over the 12 year life of the bus. 10 minute charge time. Next to no emissions. Quiet. Easy maintenance. Granted, it is a bus, not a car or truck.

A bus with an urban route would get the most out of the technology thanks to regenerative braking and regular charging opportunities. Hybrids with an onboard IC generator running at max efficiency is also an option.

To be fair, the electricity source and mineral mining can significantly offset the pollution prevention gains with electric power too.

Yup. It's not a solution to everything. What it does do is open up new infrastructure for future wide adoption. Energy storage is a volitile fast moving science. Many breakthroughs are just around the corner. Having an established distribution infrastructure will only make transition smoother.

lI:e always though that we already have the technology to use hydrogen from water to atleast increase the fuel efficiency of our octane engines. Also why the heck don't we have car sized blimps yet?🚀

Atleast use heleum to drive a small floating vehicle around

If "we already have it"
..........why aren't you using it?
was that a serious question about blimps?

I think electricity is the future of travel. Just give it some time!

Thanks for the support!

I have a way to give the Tesla or any Electric Car, extra miles between Charging... I sent the information to Elon Musk and never heard back from him... Reminds me of Steemit... I always wonder if the information ever reached him... Is your Beard really that long...???
