These batteries are getting BIG

With AES having installed a 120MWh system in California and Tesla doing a 129MWh system in S. Australia, the next big installations of battery energy storage to be commissioned will dwarf these.

Fluence (AES / Siemens joint venture) is planning a 400MWh Lithium-ion system in Long Beach, California which is designed to part replace aging gas peaker plants. It is due for commissioning by 2020.

Not to be beaten, Chinese company Rongke Power is doubling down with a 800MWh Vanadium Redox-Flow system in Dailan, China. This system is designed to balance the high penetration of wind power in the region and is due to be commissioned by the end of 2018.

The picture below shows Rongke's 'Giga factory' which was built to produce the components for the Dailan project and other huge projects that they are delivering.
