The Engagement League - Sponsored by @curie
This league is not based around financial rewards and relates to engagement.
Everyone currently on my master list has a chance here - including those powering down or dealing in delegations over the past couple of weeks.
I've used some metrics (which is the fancy way of saying that made up some numbers) relating to:
- Posts (P)
- Comments - number of (C)
- Comments - replies to replies - depth > 2 (C R)
- Comments - length in characters (C L)
- Witness votes (W) (for those proxying witness votes, your total is always 30)
- Upvotes to others (V)
- Upvotes to different authors (U V)
- Self-votes - a (small) minus score for this one sorry! (S V)
Firstly, if you are placed in the table above then you among the top 20% of the league entrants!
Congratulations to this weeks Engagement League winner, the unstoppable @janton! π
That's 6 in a row now, and the score just keeps on growing! @janton has been powering up all the prizes and at these rate the leagues will push him to minnow status by xmas! :D
@glenalbrethsen is back in the prize hunt this week after generously abstaining for a month or so - his level of engagement is worthy of reward and so I'm happy to see him in 2nd this week.
And in 3rd, @themanwithnoname continues his recent run of high engagement - nice work sir!
Excellent engagement levels also from @lynncoyle1, @gillianpearce, @smithlabs, @abh12345, @cicisaja, @rentmoney, @hashcash, and @funbobby51 who will all be receiving some STEEM this week.
Those without a self-vote (from their main account at least! π±) and placed in the top ranks will also receive a little STEEM. These people are: @veryspider, @denmarkguy, @bashadow, @mad-runner, @headchange, @davemccoy, @vinzie1, @maverickinvictus, @eveningart, and @crypto-econom1st.
The Curation League / Rewards based
The raw data has been collected from SteemSQL - @arcange's MS SQL Server copy of the Steem Blockchain.
The formula used for 'quality of financial curation skill' is:
Curation Rewards DIVIDED BY Steem Power MULTIPLIED BY 1000
This will return the amount of Curation rewards gained per 1000 Steem Power held
The rules (which will cause auto-filtering of your account if not met so just enter anyway and see what happens!) to appear in this league:
No programmed voting! Following a trail is OK, using a script to vote for you is not (but well done if you have done that!)
Must have voted at least once on a piece of content in the past 7 days
Must not have leased or delegated Steem Power in the last 14 days
Must not have Started a Power Down (withdrawal of Steem Power) in the last 15 days
The 2nd and 3rd points above are not 'bad' actions, but are required to reduce distortion of the figures.
And, as curation rewards for the past week are actually taken from votes made up to 14 days ago, we need a two week 'window' as mentioned above.
Don't let this put you off entering though - you will be automatically be excluded/appear each week, depending on the criteria above.
The end column is what I think is a genuine indicator of how well you are financially working the curation game with the tools, including vested Steem Power, that you have at your disposal.
A new name at the top, well done @obulunmaz!

Congratulations to everyone. I do like seeing this list. It shows that there are a lot of people that do care and enjoy the back and forth banter, and well just letting people know that someone liked what they did.
@heyimsnuffles - - -Welcome to the league - - - Really cool name. If I missed your entry to the league, sorry. Glad to see you doing so well in engagement if it is your first week here.
@teutonium - - - Welcome also to the league - - - Same thing, glad to see new names always.
@artgirl - - - Congrats on the leap - - - wonderful leap up the ladder
@madrunner - - - Congrats on the leap - - - same, for you.
I keep moving down, but the nice thing is there are new people moving up. @janton, what can I say, you are the new engagement king. @themanwithnoname congrats on the 3rd place, @glenalbrethsen, watch out for him, he has been writing, getting his fingers all warmed up to make a run for the top.
@lynncoyle1, and @gillianpearce, it is still nice to see you two ladies always in the running for the top spots. I don't know if dethroning @janton is going to be an easy thing for anyone, even you two added up, it would be a very close thing.
Thank you to our sponsors, and to Asher. 18th place, but still in there, still commenting, and some numbers actually a bit better than last week. Just some really tough up and comers coming up, and that is very very good to see.

Hi @bashadow I think the back and forth banter is the best part. We all may as well have fun while we grow right? I like that you are focused on different areas of growth all the time, and that you share with us. Watching other people form their Steeming stratagy is such a great way to learn. Your fiction seems to be coming along well congrats. Good luck with the badges this week.

Monday's post, if I am able to get one out, will be the magic one for one a day for a week, looking forward to increasing that badge number, then I need to think of 4 for one day, and a day to run them. There really is a lot of different ways to grow an account on steemit, I think people get to focused on one way, and are a bit resistant to change, every day is a new day, may as well learn to live with them.

Well I will be rooting for you. I still have not managed one a day for a week four in a day is mind boggling to me.
Agreed I have been thinking about that a lot myself lately. I am having fun right now experimenting with different things. I will be sure to pop in and help you celebrate your One year.

I may make it back up there one of theses weeks, but I have been trying to get my badge count looking better before my one year next week on Aug, 1st. Two more days and I get my 3 under the once a day for a week badge, (should be four, at least once a quarter, but to late for that), and then at least one more day with four post in a day to get my 3 under the four post a day badge. I know silly goals, but hey they are what they are and something to shoot for. Next year I am going to try to get a number increase at least once a quarter.

@steemitboard - - they give out badges for accomplishments on steemit, like number of votes number of comments, and other little things, https://steemitboard.com/board.html?user=gillianpearce thats your board. You have like an amazing number for daily weekly and monthly post 4 different months you never missed a day posting. I have only manage to get two weeks under my belt without missing a day, you have 27 weeks where you did not miss a day. Those numbers are simply mind blowing to me.
So I am trying to improve my posting numbers. I know it is going to be a long haul, I am more a content reader, but I am trying to still find a balance. I like and enjoy where I am at right now on steemit, but I also want to see and experience different things on steemit. @IFC is winding down, and that little game/challenge helped me a ton for trying different things. So If I focus for a bit on trying to build my steemitboard badges, then that means I may try new and different things, grow my account, and myself at the sametime. Because of @IFC I am a published lyricist,(I wrote a little song as part of the competition). And I can't help but think how cool it would be to have a tiny side story in the steemmonsters game, so I am practicing/learning how to write stories. (I think I am getting better). Steem growth to me also equals self growth in many respects.

That's actually not correct @bashadow. π
The only month I missed a day was December when I didn't post on Christmas day or my birthday. Maybe the timezone differences play a part in the calculations. π
Sounds good. I'm ready for a bit of a change too but I haven't decided in what direction yet.
I wish you well with your story writing and any new projects you want to try.
Have a fun week!

Thanks you have a good week to, raining here this morning so mostly an indoor day, but it will make all the fishermen and women happy, they seem to like fishing i the rain. I know when I fished I liked it when it rained.
And I think the time zone thing does play a part in the day award badges.

Hey, @bashadow. Thank you for the mention and the kind words. Can't tell if you're warning everyone to watch out for me or if you're warning me to watch out for No Name, but whichever way works. I'm not sure if I have warm enough fingera to make a run back up to the top now that janton is basically foregoing sleep, eating and whatever else to get up there, but I'm looking forward to giving it my best shot. Lots to do to get there, though, and so as long as I can keep improving without hitting a plateau, that will be great. I need to get to your reply from a day or so ago and will hopefully do so before today's end.
Way to welcome the newcomers and congratulate the leapers, too. I have a hard keeping track of when people come in and such, so good on you for keeping it all straight. :)

I had to re-read what I wrote. Pesky commas, and lack of clarity of thought. I don't know who I was warning who about who. It reads both ways, Oh my god I am becoming a politician.
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Well, if you were intentionally trying to be vague, yes, that would make you a politician. If it's just too many pesky commas, hey, that happens, to, the, best of us. :)

Nope never intentionally vague, so just a pesky comma problem. But I like the comma, I need to find more uses for the colon: and the semi-colon; to put them to more and better uses.

I think it is great the amount of engagement, The top 5 are pretty locked up, consistent and persistent. for them. I have read a lot o their comments, and there is a lot of them, and all of them pretty dang good. I was glad to see my number of comments and votes move up this week. There were just a few short ones. So I need to practice longer comments, I am trying to learn to write after all, so practice practice, and more practice for me this coming week.

I appreciate the prize, when I am short on funds it goes to my weekly support for F.O.G. Like Daves. It is so nice to see new names on the table. More involvement is good for steem and steemit. @paulag's red fish campaign is doing pretty good too, and beginning to take off.

howdy from Texas Engagement League! First off Asher..I bout fell outta my chair today when I checked my wallet and saw my SP! I thought "how in the world did THAT happen!" So thank you sir, it is such a blessing and a powerful encouragement and I salute and thank @curie for the generous support for this league and for helping so many people.
I'm sorry I'm late to the party today, our internet was down again, this time for hours, it's been plaguing me all week going in and out which really throws a wrench in my commenting strategy.
I'm so glad that @glenalbrethsen is back in and being rewarded for all his hard work. I don't really want to compete against him, he's kinda scary because he's so good and a prolific writer, which I'm not.
Thank God we've had a drought going on here otherwise you wouldn't be able to find our house! It's really slowed the growth of grass, weeds and trees but I gotta do more property maintenance this coming week so I'm stepping back a bit from Steemit, I'll still try to make it into the top 5 but it may be the top 10, who knows?
I'm having a blast and so enjoying getting to know so many people from around the world, where else can you do that in such a fun way? I feel very blessed. The great @davemccoy referred to me as King Janton the Joyous and that pretty much describes the basis of my success although I don't know about the King part.
The wonderful @lynncoyle1 called me Jibber Jabber Janton which is also a great nick-name and description of my personality on here, I love that one Lynn, thank you!
I'm so impressed with everyone and those moving up or staying near the top like @themanwithnoname, Lynn, @gillianpearce, and @smithlabs! oh my gosh that guy is great, he is also full of Joy and so funny! if you don't know him guys you should..has a BIG heart! get ready to laugh alot though, he helps keep my joyous.
Also @cicisaja! what fun getting to know her last week and asking her alot of questions so she was forced to keep writing back, lol congratulations on your constant upward movement. @rentmoney is tremendous and coming on strong, @hashcash same for you, @funbobby51 is so consistent and seems like always in the top 10.
Congrats to everyone who worked hard to make it into the top 20, it's not easy! Again my special thanks to Asher for all the work in running this league and congrats to you also for placing so high with everything else you have going on!

Thank you @janton but, sadly, I can't take that much credit. I don't work full time.

Well I'm glad of the reminder @janton because, already a few pieces have crept back.
I looked out some articles to give to my friend who was visiting at the weekend and then forgot to give them to him.
Similarly I put aside a receipt book to see if my daughter wanted it before I threw it away.
Then there's an odd sock that is waiting for it's partner and my old fit which which I left there as a reminder to delete my account.
It's the beginning of the slippery slope! π

Congratulations, once again, on No. 1 and basically owning all the records on the engagement end. I think I said that in my other comment, but it bears repeating.
It's nice to be back, I think. You don't want to compete against me. Right. Whatever. I don't think there is a competition here. Not yet. It's Janton and the rest of us. Sounds like a band name. Janton and the Engagers! Something like that.
Well, I do hope you get your yard work back to where you think it should be, and now that you've committed to it here on this post... :)
Nothing! You can do whatever you want.

Nope. It's yours. You beat it by 15,000, and I exceeded it by 4,000. So, your total last week is the new all-time high, dating back to February 25 of this year when Asher started posting the actual data points. Before that it, was only point totals.
I'm already working on taking it back. The rest of the records would all be great to have, but I don't see me going over 1,000 comments anytime soon. I'll be fortunate to get up to 400. :)

Massive thanks must go to @curie for the continued sponsorship of the Leagues, they have sent another 8 weeks STEEM over :D
Thanks again for your contributions to our blockchain, and well done on 1st place yet again!

I am happy to be back to winning a prize! So thank you very much Asher and @curie for that! I have given it in Asher's name to FOG and happy to be contributing again over there in your name Asher ;) ...
And wow, I love this new dynamic. King Glen the Great is going to be pushing King Janton the Joyous (Queen Lynn the Lovable says it Janton the Jibber Jabberer though).... I'm loving this battle though and omgosh, I can't believe the number of C R's @janton had! That's truly remarkable! Congrats!
And really congrats to all of you, including Blondie and Gillian too... That top 5 is the All-Time List for sure :)

Seriously. We need to work on this branding job you're doing. King Glen the Great is just not working for me. Besides, you can't really have two kings. You can only have one. That's the point of a king. There's only one at a time. And clearly, whatever greatness I may have had is being totally and utterly eclipsed by janton the stubborn (his words, not mine).
I think I'll just stick to Glen, leave the rest out. I am on a quest, though to regain the CL record, however that can happen. I'm not sure when it's going to happen, or how, per seβactually I know how, it's whether or not I can do it is the questionβbut I do know this. It's going to happen. :)

Ok Glen... I look forward to you embarking on your quest! I think you can do anything you put your mind to, I have witnessed it over the months! And while your reign may be over for now, I still think of you as the King. But I won't call you the king as you wish, I will just watch your quest and marvel as the records fall! ;)

Well, not trying to dampen any enthusiasm here. :)
That's very nice of you to think of me as the king. I will try to live up to that as much as I can.
As far as watching records fall, aside from the CL record, I'm not sure which other ones I'm going to be able to get. I need to get a certain level of comments, but I don't need to attempt 1300 to get to the CL record, or for that matter to get to 60,000 points.
Still, I'm probably going to need at least 400 comments to get to 300,000 CL, even though, that's probably not a safe amount as far as janton is concerned, if he didn't really push himself last week. So, that means more comments. My record is somewhere in the 350 range. I just made up 77 from last week. I'll need another 100 to get to 400, just to have a chance to get the CL record back, maybe, depending on how quickly janton gets his yard work done.
So, up the mountain I climb. Good luck to you, too. You shouldn't be out of this either, you know. :)

Has Tiger Woods come back? I must have missed it. Glad to hear though. Kid's got a lot of talent, even if he did mess up royally in his personal life. Hopefully he's worked through that, too.
It sounds like we may have more than just the current 'rookie' to contend with this Sunday, since Asher appears to be signing people up from his Top 100 Engagers list he painstakingly created. You're on it, by the way. Been digging out of my replies so I haven't been back to the post to see if you made it over there or not. :)

I haven't made it over there, I just saw from him that there is a Top 100 Engagers... I will go check it out now before I go to sleep!
And I know that the rookie has lots of energy, but you have the skills of a veteran so no worries (I have faith in you) :D

Hey. I'm 52. Anyone under 50 now is a kid. The older I get the more kids there will be. That's the way it works. :)
Well, if were talking about janton, he's not so much a rookie anymore. Not with six titles under his belt. And, we've got at least one actual rookie coming in, probably more, so we'll see how that all plays out.
I've got to come up with a veteran strategy because I always seem to be playing the rookie game: catchup. :)

Oh, I don't know. It's all in fun, I know, and I probably should just let the King Glen ride. It just has a lot of connotations that I guess I take a little too seriously for my own good. I certainly don't need anyone feeling bad for using it.
Today's been down so far. I've expected more activity with the regulars, but it hasn't been happening yet. I've been jumping around a little more than I was last week. Some people don't seem to wake up until about two hours from now when I'm getting ready to wind down.

We'll see. It's the combination of numbers, not just one or the other. My comment count isn't nearly where I wanted it to be, and so even though I've been ahead of the game all week, I need to have a decent day today and so far, I'm coming up short. We'll see what happens over the next three to four hours. I'd really like to wind up a little earlier this week than I did last week. Been on a little later most of the week trying to make up for the time I've missed myself.
We've got the new people to contend with too, right. Nothing's in the bag until the league lists post. :)

My replies aren't 1,000 words. Normally. :) A 1,000 characters yes. Words, no.
I keep track of how many comments and upvotes I make every day. I'm also now keeping track of CL. So, I know what the count is.
I think it varies for Asher. You've noticed that some weeks he publishes pretty early and other weeks it's later in the day. I'm not sure if he could set the data pull through a specific time or not. I believe he goes off his own time in Majorca, at whatever time that ends up at.
It doesn't normally happen this early. Usually, it's sometime after I've already signed off, but it's a few hours before he posts. He's nine hours ahead of me, so that would make him two hours ahead of you, right?
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

well sir, I don't know how the time zones work but if he is 9 hours ahead of you then he's either be 7 or 11 ahead of me I assume but that's just a guess.
I guess I don't know what 1,000 words looks like in comments. I guess I need to count one of your big ones and see how many words there are but you did a heavy week I thought, I was amazed. It helps your average go up, that's what I need to work on.
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

I had some larger comments this week, but I'm significantly below 1,000 characters on average, so nowhere near a 1,000 words on a regular basis. That would probably be something like 4,000 to 5,000 characters per comment. There's no way I'm doing that. Even the people with the highest average of CL on the Top 100 list aren't doing that. The highest I calculated was around 1,700 characters per comment. I'm generally over a third of that. This week, I'm just less than half, so there has been an uptick in CL over normal. Just need to keep going with the comments and hope the lower tier replies keep up with them.

Welcome, @teutonimum. I guess I'm not really the official greeter here, but I thought I'd say hi anyway and to make a comment on your placing.
I think you're finish is a great place to be, especially if it's the first time in the leagues (it's hard to keep track who's been around and who's new). Self-upvoting does have an effect, but believe it or not, it's not as a big an issue as the amount of characters, (CL), the number of overall comments (C), and the number of second tier replies (CR).
I don't know the formulaβthat's only several weeks of observing on my partβso take it for what you wish. There always seems to be more to do around here in order to get into the Top 10, let alone higher. :)
Good luck.

Wow, this past week included the most time I have spent on Steemit. @abh12345, you Engagement League is addictive. Thanks for putting it on again!
Rumor had it that @janton was taking time off this week to work in the yard so I thought I might have a shot at #1, although that would only be if @glenalbrethsen wasn't on his game. I guess the 100+ degree temperatures drove Janton to the cool safety of the house where he racked up the single-highest score we've seen yet! In fact, it was 50% higher than the venerable @glenalbrethsen!
@janton, I give up. If you can almost double my score on a week that you're taking off, on a week where I'm commenting more than I ever have... there's nothing else that can be done for me. You're the master.
@glenalbrethsen, we gave it the old college try, but it left us with mounds of student loans... and carpel tunnel from all that typing. Good job though, buddy. I'm glad to have gotten to chat with you about things like Costco dogs and newspapers. It was a good week.
@lynncoyle1 I feel a little guilty edging you out, but you were a great competitor! I enjoyed getting to catch up with you this week. That walk to the beach was nice, even if we ended up seeing all the seaweed. Time to get out a shovel and start our new workout program.

Hey, congratulations on the prize with comedyopenmic. That was great! I need to see what the other person posted, but you did get second place, right? They decided to give me a door prize for my efforts, so after being told I wouldn't be eligible for anything, it feels good to be recognized with something. I think I'd like to do that on a regular basis. Just need to come up with it. It seems to be harder to do when it's intentional than when it's off the cuff, but we'll see.

@glenalbrethsen Why did they say you were not eligible ? I need to do an entry this week but am like you. I throw out jokes playing off other peoples posts or comments. Trying to be funny deliberately is a whole other thing. I would hate to come up with one and not be eligible.

If you haven't already, it's worth going and tracking down their original rules post. They generally have it linked in either the new week's contest post or in the result one.
In my case, I failed to see the part of it where it said the entry needed to be totally original. While I'd say 99% of it was, the joke itself is well known and even published. So, even though I came up with 2000 words of backstory for our thieving convicts, the joke wasn't mine. I did get a door prize, though, which was very nice of them.
Yeah. It's strange, but the comedic juices flow when someone else is saying something. I have had some success when I've been writing in script form, or a dialogue back and forth between two imaginary people. I might have to go that route. I just need to shorten it up. Too much time for something that might not pay off. There's a bang for the buck quotient to be met. :)

I'm not sure how much back and forth janton and I are going to do. His number of comments is going to make it difficult, especially if he's keeping the character count up. However, I will do my level best, whether he's overgrown by weeds typing his fingers off or he's out in his yard working, to get the CL record back. One way or the other, that one is mine. Then, if I manage somehow to get back in first place, I hope it's only after he's done his best, too. Just not that satisfying if both aren't running as fast as they can. Plus, who knows who else is going to show up around here and blow it all out of the water. Maybe you? You just never know. :)

I just may give it a shot, one of these days when I have a whole week to devote to it. I think that really is the kind of thing I would have to plan in advance and hit the ground running on the very first day. I am thinking before I put that much effort in we better wait and see what the scoring changes consist of. That could be a game changer.
I can see a power up being factored in but thinking about it I hope it wouldn't carry too much weight. Just because then points could be bought instead of earned.
I should read back and see if he left any hints about the changes. ;0)

Well, in a conversation he and I had he was talking about drilling down even farther into the comments, rather than two down, hitting farther down. I don't know if that's what he's going to do or not.
I suggested he keep it the way it is and add back in the replies on other peoples posts, but I don't think he's actually looking to add a column as he is to replace one.
He generally doesn't leave a lot of clues, and he's pretty good at just not answering a direct question, either. He doesn't want people gaming the challenge and I don't blame him. The curation part of the leagues got hit by people creating scripts. I'd hate for anything similar to that to happen to the engagement side, though it has at least once. We start automating or spamming engagement, there's no reason for a league anymore.

I am surprised that there even is a way for that to actually happen. The comments seem pretty complex especially at the top of the list. I do agree with you though I am just figuring out how it all works, It would be sad to see it messed up now.
I didn't even realize he only counts two down. Some of the best conversations are only getting started at the second comment. At any rate it will be fun to watch a new spin added on. That really could end up being a game changer especially in the top 5 to 10
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Okay, so this is how I understand it to work with the two down:
He sees the first comment on the post, and then the reply. On the next reply, which would be from the person who commented first, that's when the count begins. And then, it keeps counting as far as it goes down. So, subsequent comment is being counted.
I think where he was talking about doing is drilling down farther, into another layer, like fourth down. He was describing it as wanting to better measure true engagement. As it is, he may have come up with something else entirely.
So, every comment you make gets counted in the total comment category. Then, once that second comment begins, all of the subsequent ones get counted as replies.
There was someone a while back that was basically repeating the same information over and over with a little bit changed depending on who was being addressed. I don't know if it was automated or not. If not, it was type a sentence or two, then paste the main message.
That hasn't happened as far as I know since. I don't go in and look at what everyone is doing but I did this one because they're comment count was incredibly high and they won the league that week.
So, it is possible to do, but fortunately, not very often. The curation part though apparently happens a lot.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. That makes a lot more sense. I want to pay attention to how the scores work because I hope to shoot for top ten. Not often maybe once a month I almost made it last week so it is a doable goal. The two deep is just ice breaker sometimes especially on a good topic. Glad to know I won't have to change up the strategy.

Congratulations @themanwithnoname! If anyone is going to edge me out, I'm glad it was you :)
With Jibber Jabber Janton out there (@davemccoy and I spent our engagement time coming up with that haha), I gave up on first place several weeks ago. And now Glen! Geez, now I'm fighting for third place! :)

I'm glad to see Glen back in it. It would be hard to get motivated if everyone else was getting rewards, but I wasn't. Granted, he gave up rewards voluntarily because he was consistently smashing records, but now I'm glad he's going for them again.
I'm not even sure that Janton does anything other than Steemit. I believe he only sleeps for part of the night, then gets up for a while, then sleeps more. He talked about taking his dog out at midnight/1am or something. And his scores seem to show that.
If you can type 60 words per minute and if the average word you type is six characters long, then you're typing 360 characters per minute. That means he spent 678 minutes in physically typing. Doesn't include reading or thinking, just typing. That's 11.3 hours of pressing the buttons over the last week. Being that I only spend maybe 10-20% of my time (at best) actually typing, that means he probably spent between 56 and 112 hours on Steemit. That's between "more than a full-time job" and "almost three full-time jobs" worth of time. I can't compete with that.
I think my new target for the Leagues is to get a "0 upvote" reward. Ha ha. I could get 1 Steem prize and not spend the crazy number of hours I spent this last week on Steemit. I need to get out more and enjoy life. Maybe I should go to the beach. We'll pick a day and go. Then it will be like we're at the beach together. They even have seaweed at one near me. ;)

You and No Name were were only 139 points apart! Hard to tell how he eked it out, but it was probably the 10,000 CL more he had versus the 70 more comments you had on him. That's my guess. Not by much, though. It obviously could have gone either way.
At any rate, it's more fun when it's close. Gives us all more reason to try to do more the next time.
In my case, there was a 18,500 point difference between me and j3. A few comments ain't going to do it. Not even novel length comments. :)
I do like being the underdog better, though, but I don't expect this to turn around pointwise anytime soon. There's just so many hours in the day, and I sleep. I don't stay in my chair and nap. I go back in the house and up to my bed, then try to roll out of it each morning. :)

I'll let Glen have it. I figured with you (supposedly) taking this last week off that I'd make the push. I went hard all week, searching out new articles and authors. I commented like crazy and put out a few extra posts. I got my all-time personal best score. Even with all that, it was only about half your score! And now you're saying you could have pressed harder? I'll take a participation prize and let someone else try to catch you. I know when I'm beat.
Don't wait too long to fill in those cracks by the foundation! Good luck on your other yard work.

Hey, @themanwithnoname!
I think we're all going to let janton have it, whether we like it or not! Could have pressed harder. Okay. Press harder then. Let's see if he can beat me by 40,000!
Congrats on the personal all time score. That's always good when you can do more than what you've done before. It's really the best measure, because we're the one who we consistently have the same amount of time, efficiency and ability with, right?
I'm going after the CL record. Whether or not that gets me back to No. 1 is secondary. I still feel like others could use the prize money more than I, but I guess it's better to be all in than not. You're welcome to come along, though. I know it takes a lot of time, and so do what you got to do.

Do what you got to do with the yard. Somehow, though, I don't think it's going to take the entire week, and I'm sure I'll still be somewhere in your dust.
No Name sounds like he's backing off, too. Of course, I've heard all of that before, and then no one slacks off, so I'm just going to do what I can with whatever time the wife allows me while she's off work this week. Next week, though, may be much better. Maybe. :)

haha! you're the best glenalbrethsen..or is that the beast?
well it's not just the yard work although we have 15 acres and alot of cutting, trimming, thinning, landscaping, planting, mowing..it's not just getting the mower out and spending half a day. then there's other outside repairs and work but some of those could wait until it's not freaking 110 degrees out!
so yes, I've already cut back. I feel bad for noname because he really worked hard last week but when I said that I was thinking about stepping back last week I changed my mind and told most everyone ..at least I thought I did. because I started thinking how fun it would be to break that 1,000 comment mark so that's what I did.
I did slack off some but spent some late nights as well. It's hard to take off much because when you have a list of comments that you haven't gotten to what are you going to do? not answer them after working to develop relationships with those people?
I did really suck in one area last week though and that was in the number of different people I voted for, it said 47. that's pitiful, everyone had more than me. I mean it's frustrating to only have a certain number of votes until it makes no difference and you aren't helping anyone and I seem to be at that level alot. like right now my voting power is at 50%.
It's alot of fun, this contest thing but man, I really don't like people making it between you and I because I don't really want to compete with you and I just see you as the "real" writer and author. I just have fun and ask questions that's all. If someone did the math on how long the average length of our comments were, mine would look like a joke compared to yours! lol.
while you write about real ideas and concepts which are much of the time serious little mini books, I'm like asking someone what they do for a living or something like that! lol. no comparison. that's why I don't like the comparison thing. too bad your wife is off this week though.
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Well, you and I are in the same boat when it comes to the comparisons, but if it makes people interested and do as much as they can do, that's great. It's when people feel discouraged because they don't have time to keep up is what I'm concerned about.
This isn't so much about who is the writer and who isn't. It's about the best engagers, and you, sir, are the best by far. Even if it's just asking questions, which I'd say is only one part of what you do, you still need to keep the conversation going.
And with this reply you just proved you can write more. Now, there's no hope whatsoever. :)
It's okay, though. Being the winner should be fun. We both have time to do it, and there are some others, too, so we just need to keep at it. Those of us who do have the time probably should be incorporating some of our commenting to spreading the word about the leagues. I think some do that regularly. I feel like I need to do it more.
You're just going to have to accept the lower SP and curation for the time being, unless you have something to invest or someone else comes along with a delegation. Even where I'm at, which isn't that high, it gets tough. I just flat out gave up voting on comments after the first or second one in a conversation late last week because I was running out of VP.
You do want to make an impact when you vote and you want to spread it out as far as you can. You just can't do both at lower SP, so you try to build up and work your way up. With the delegation you do have, it will help, but it is what is. I'm not sure where you need to be in order to be in a good place to spread upvotes around, but I don't think it's anywhere in minnow territory, which means there's a ways to go yet.
No Name will be okay. He's good at keeping in it as much as he can without getting too carried away. He must have had time to devote to it more than normal last week or he would have been off doing other things. As it is, he had the best week he's had, he said. But he's not one of the ones that has all day to work it like you and I do.
re: long list of comments
Yeah, so just think of what it's going to be like when you're a dolphin and have a rep in the mid to upper 60s and more and more people are commenting on your posts. Instead of a dozen or so, it becomes three dozen first level comments, and that list of replies is going to be nuts. Good thing is, you won't have to go too far to interact with folks. Bad thing is, you won't have to go far to interact with folks. Somehow, the balance still needs to be maintained.
And no way do you want to give up on the connections. They're going to be a part of what gets you where you want to go, just as you will be a part of theirs. I don't go all in on the "we're in it together" idea, but there's no denying that there is an interlocking going on. You can't have conversations by yourself. So, you want to keep engaging and hope they can and will, too.
re: yard work to do
I was thinking you wouldn't be doing it all in one day, or that you'd manage to get some time on Steemit, regardless, so you wouldn't be completely gone, and you would still have enough time to stay in the running. Where you're at right now, with the comments, if you keep the CL up, you don't need over 1,000 to keep first place, let alone in the Top 10. Only if you want to win by 18,000-plus points. :)

howdy Glen! I've been behind since yesterday when our internet was down twice for hours. I got two people to join the contest, smithlabs and mepatriot. do you know those guys? I don't think so at least if you saw their posts you rudely didn't comment on them! lol
smithlabs is amazing, one of the most brilliant, above genius level people I've ever met, electrical engineer, inventor, fabricator, manufacturer, herbalist, natural food guy, mechanic, designer, big companies hire him to trouble shoot problems, in fact if you get to know him I challenge you to come up with something that he doesn't know about. he has a photographic memory, he has coin colletions, gem collections, gun collections, he builds guns, I mean anything you can think of he's into or knows about. and he has a heart of gold and helps alot of people.
But I need to invite more people into the league too, I did a post on it and didn't get a single person interested.
Yeah I've been watching people like papa-pepper (77) and how he does his commenting to get an idea when I get alot of them on my posts. that does get to be a nice challenge. right now I'm way down in my commenting compared to last week.
thank you sir for all your words of wisdom!

She's been talking about making runs to storesβthe outlet mall, Macy's, etc. There was some talk about the coast, too, but I'm not sure if that's happening or not. We've got the granddaughter to consider in all of this, too, and since she's just one, there's naps to take and only so much traveling she endures.
Papa Pepper is probably a good person to watch as far as comments go. He seems to be doing quite a lot of things outside of Steemit which then gives him material to put on Steemit. There will probably come a point where there's enough comments coming in that you just won't be able to get to them all. It's a good problem to have, really. :)
I have seen mepatriot and smithlabs commenting on things where you're concerned, either your posts or elsewhere. I think I did comment on something with smithlabs last week. Have not yet with mepatriot, but I will be because I've been trying to at least comment with others in the league once a week, if not much more. It just depends on if we connect and how well. :)
Smithlabs sounds like he's got a lot going, which makes me wonder why he's here :) while giving me some comfort that he is. He should never run out of material to post, or things to talk about. Being a jack of all trades, and maybe even a master in many, is a good place to be on Steemit. And if he's a good guy, too, well... even better. :)
You challenge me to come up with something he doesn't know, eh? Well, I think I'll wait on that for a while. If I do, though, it will probably be inadvertent, rather than on purpose. :)
Need to get that internet going. Is is suffering from heat fatigue? We have occasional outages here, but for the most Xfinity/Comcast does a good job.

sir Glen! good day to ya sir. well I was thinking that if you won this week it would be good for the League and contest would it not? when I go to step back I then realize that I have this big list of people that I've tried to get some kind of relationship going with..and I can't just not answer them!
I am back down from last week, like yesterday I did 115 comments but last week I think I averaged 150 a day. so this is harder to cut back than I thought, plus I still have precious little time to come up with a decent post! lol.
yeah I've noticed that the big guys only comment on comments to their posts, I guess they don't have time to visit very many other's posts. Except papa-pepper, he never sleeps I don't think, puts out 4 or 5 posts a day and it's everyday life stuff that he's doing on his homestead, alot about plants and gardening, teaching all about that stuff. plus tons of animal things.
I don't understand your last sentence. I have no idea where to find this information so I'm always clueless about numbers. 5,000 comments from when?
I wonder about smithlabs also, he has so many ongoing projects that it boggles the mind,he literally hardly ever sleeps though, actually.
but everything I mention he's already done it, has it, made it, read it, ate it, wrote about it, researched it...it's just astounding. so good luck trying to stump him, let me know when you do, gotta happen sometime.
I still think authors are a cut above on here.

Yo, @themanwithnoname. Yeah, well, it was more than a rumor. He said it. He decided to go after 1000 comments and basically obliterated it and everything else in the process. Can't help it if the guy uses the 111 degree weather as an excuse to avoid yard work. :)
He is saying he needs to do it this week, though, so I guess we'll see. Actually, I'm hoping he still makes a run for things, anyway. :)
You didn't have to mention how badly he beat me by, did you? Thanks man. Truth hurts, don't it? :)
I set a personal record for CL this week and in the past that's been more than enough to get me into first place, but then janton comes along and outdoes not only my best but sets the record for CL. Now he's got more SP to work with, too, so who knows what that's going to do for the upvote side of the equation.
I suppose we did give it the old college try. I've got the carpel tunnel to prove it, but I'm not taking on the loan debt :) It was a good week. I'm hoping for another one, depending on what my wife wants out of me while she's off from work. She's taking the whole week. And now that the 50,000 point mark has been decimated, I guess it's time to try for 100,000 points, right? What do you think? I probably should actually reach 50,000 before I go for the 100,000 points right? :)

Don't take on the loan debt with the carpal tunnel.
Do make sure to help your wife. Happy wife, happy life! There will always be next week.
I think that 50,000 is still in reach. I stretched and did some long comments back and forth with you to help get your CL up, but that wasn't enough this time. You need to get a solid comment buddy so you can just go for hours. We'll have to find one for you. I don't think I can be that guy. I don't have enough consistency in writing long comments.
Good luck this coming week!

I think the better idea would be to have 100 or more folks who will comment with me five or six times. That would seem to be spreading out more than just you and me or some other person. I appreciate the idea, though.
I converse with you because I find our conversations to be interesting, informational, fun and I really liked to do it. The CL and the comments become secondary to the actual conversation. I do thank you for helping me out, though. :) In that case, I was helping, you, too. :) And apparently, we both helped janton, which was probably as much our downfall as any this week. :) We're our own worst enemies. :)
Yeah, yeah. Happy wife, happy life. I've heard it. Problem is, nothing rhymes with husband. That's why it can't be the other way around. And even so, how could you compete with rhyming with life? Not fair.
I'm okay with the week I had. I'm glad to get the numbers up. I just don't like my second best showing overall being left in the dust, and I don't like having the CL record belonging to someone else. That one is where I live, man! :)

I can relate to the "real life troubles getting in the way" Looking back at the older posts would be a gold mine of info if one had the time to go through it.
Seems like the top spots would be very hard to maintain over any length of time.
I have a lot of flexibility in real life obligations. That helps with finding some "chunks" of Steem time.
I admit to being a bit torn right now. Some financial issues mean that I must make some bigger chuncks of work time. At the same time I want to take full advantage of the delegation because it is a rare opportunity. If it wasn't Steemit it would be something else. Juggling time is a life long challenge with me.

I think that's no different for most people. If/when I'm recovered again, I will have to start working again - probably as a teacher, since that's my job. If that happens, I don' have a clue how I will be able to fit in SteemIt. I admire the people who have to go to work and have a family and are still able to find time to be active here. Even without having a family, I would really have a hard time combining it with a job.

I am not an expert on the witnesses part either. I do know voting for the right witnesses is important, so I used the proxy-feature to allow @abh12345 to vote on my behalf. Perhaps when I eventually get to Discord I can get a bit of a crash course. There's so many aspects of the actual workings of steemit that I don't get. My brother got me here and gives me assistance but he and I have a slightly different outlook. I am very community orientated. He keeps encouraging me to upvote myself and get shadowbots to do my voting. That just seems WRONG. I love the conversations and interaction with each person I "meet". Although I need to know how to correctly manage my account without having to wade through reems of archived posts. Thank you for your kind assistance

@abh12345 still a great contest to be participating in! I don't have a chance anymore to get into the top 10!
@janton amazing score you are getting there, also glad that @glenalbrethsen is accepting his price again! @lynncolyle1 and @gillianpearce there would have been weeks that you would have won with your scores but these days are behind us now! Still great engagement!

Hey, @fullcoverbetting! It's good to see you back. You were on holiday, if I remember right. Then, of course, there was the World Cup to attend to. Sorry about Belgium. Who knew France would win it all?! You did, probably. :)
Cool on giving out the Lucky 25 prize again.
And you're definitely right about the old engagement scores. They're not enough now. Bar was booted into orbit last week. I'm still shaking my head. :)
You going to come along for the ride, or still got stuff to do?

Yep, I was on a holiday! It was great but it is over!
Couong down to the next one!
It feels great to be able to sponsor the lucky 25 again! I did proise Asher to do it for 5 more weeks! We will see after that!
I donβt have a shot anymore on a top10 place, so I will stand by the sideline and watch the fierce battles going on! Curious who will win next week! You or @janton!
This all doesnβt mean that I will not engage anymore but I will give up the fight for the top spots! I do feel comfortable with sponsoring!
Cheers,
Peter

I don't know if you should give up on the top spots. There's a big difference right now between 2-5 and 6-10. I mean, they're all working and doing something, but generally, not always, there's a gap between those in the upper bracket and the lower. In this case, with janton, there's a big gap between first and the next group.
If janton is taking time off this week, okay, maybe there's a chance for me to win. That's not how I like to win, though. I like to take my best shot and have the other people take their best shots, and then see who wins. Otherwise, it's just not a very sporting victory.
However, janton's been so far ahead he could drop down a few to several hundred comments and still win while I've been working like crazy to just get into the 40,000 point range. And that, barely.
So, we'll see. I need to get the CL record back, but beyond that, I'll do what I can and still get my sleep. :)
Okay, so France all the way then. Did you make anything off of it? :)
When is the next holiday, if you're already counting down? I mean, how often do you get to go? :)
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

It is not that am I giving up. Or am I. Don't know.
It is great to see so many new names on top of the board! But it has been changed to a contest where time is the most important weapon! Let's say 10 weeks ago, it would have been possible to have a shot at the top 10 with spending 1 to 1,5 hours per day! This has become an illusion. I do work 40 hours a week, have 2 small kids, my own blog to care about and some other hobbies besides Steem (believe it or not). So, yes maybe I am giving up but I still do believe that engagement is utmost important. That;s why I will keep supporting @abh12345 engagement league!
I just don't have a shot anymore on the top 10! While I am writing this comment, it could come over as a rant and that's not what I am wanting!
So let's switch to some more interesting things. Next holiday is mid August, to the sea with the kids for only a few days.
After that I will have to count down until end of October or begin November for the City trip with my wife. And yes after that I will have to wait unit July next year :(
So, I go often but not often enough :)
4 out 5 bets on the final came in. But I didn't bet on the world cup outright winner.
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Why not? The overall World Cup winner would have been the bet, right?
Okay, so three trips in a year that's not enough? Just joking. I could be on vacation more than I'm not, except, as you know, it's not very conducive for accomplishing anything on Steemit.
Okay, well, giving up probably isn't the word, and the prioritizing is already where it needs to be (family comes first, which means work, too), so you do what you can do when you can do it. As I said, I still think there's a chance for No. 10 at least, but yes, there's still a level of commenting that needs to go on, and no, you don't want to neglect your blog entirely, especially if it's making something. You'll want to post.
I didn't read a rant. I read a very realistic and honest observation. Even if I still think it's possible to see you in the Top 10 again, even with all the new people vying for spots. Doesn't mean we're always going to be up there, either. :)
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

I just don't like to bet on an outright winner (or future). When you want to bet on the favorites the odds are most of the time too low to for risk you would be taken! I did try it a while ago with golf, but there is it even harder!
It could be possible that there still is a chance to get into the top 10, but I will let surprise me! Like I wrote I won't change my engagement on the steem blockchain.
3 a year is for sure not enough, but I do ran out of holidays :)
Also from August until May the football season for the kids is going on, so there are not enough free weekends :(!

Now, hold on here. I'm the only one who gets to write novels each week. :)
Yeah, janton's got the overall CL record, but I'm going to get it back. If nothing else, I will have it again. You don't have to settle for third, though. You get a week where you don't have to take a few days off and you will give janton a good run. CL needs to be over 200 per comment to do it, though. He has it to the point where the comments and the average CL is making a huge difference. But if you've already got the comments going, what's a little more CL? :)

Well, the CL is the only thing I take personally. I would prefer not to lose, and on top of that lose by 50% as No Name so helpfully pointed out :), but I'll get over it. The CL record, though. I've seen an uptick in your general activity, especially in getting back to me, so that's good. I'm glad things are improving for you.
My novel sized comments that you keeping referring to them as were not enough to even be close this week, so I can identify with how hard it is to keep up in this league. Time is always going to be the issue. It's what you do with it that counts. I think you've got a lot of things going for you, though, and your participation in the leagues is just one source of revenue for you, so what you do here is like icing. I'm sure you can move up when it's time to do so. You need to be right with you. So, be right with you. :)

Hi, as fate would have it, both you, @abh12345 and @paulag appeared on the same page; I have added you both to the MAP Curator Trail. What should I call them? Para-curation services! A bit of a mouthful, tho, but I appreciate the quantification of what most people do in a qualitative fashion.
Standard blurb follows, but it has the links!
You have received an upvote (from @rycharde) and a resteem (from @accelerator) as part of the new MAP Trail initiative to support curators.
You can see your entry here.
You have been added to the Fanbase on SteemAuto and will be supported with further upvotes.
You are also being followed by @accelerator and may receive further upvotes when your article is added to another of our "curated curations" posts. Delegated SP is also available on a weekly basis.
All of this is free and part of MAP's mission to support quality content creators by supporting curators.
You may help support the MAP Curator Trail by either upvoting, resteeming or delegating to @accelerator...

I find the quality of my comments dropping as I become more and more community ordinated. Even a few times a week now my own comments are more or less just informing people that they have made it into the weekly author showcase or their entry for a contest was accepted.
Comments do tend to have their diminishing returns even more so when it is to similar people over and over and over. There is only so much that can be done from a single platform. There is only so far someone knowledge in a single topic can go without branching out into lesser known areas and still tying to βadd value.β
So I can more understand a change is needed. I have noticed some of my more generic and even shorter comments these days have had more impact than some of my longer ones in the past. While my own quality might be dropping it is getting more done as well.
I suspect unless I make even greater efforts to try and stay in the top 30 that I will keep dropping. That is not a bad thing either as not everything in regards to engagement can be analyzed on the blockchain. My own role here on steemit has simply changed. Iβm no longer a lone wolf going out every week leaving massive blocks of text trying find my way. So many important things take place elsewhere and so does my time.
I even find myself enjoying leaving shorter comments these days as I try and stay on top of things. Which is a quite different view then when I started on steemit.

I understand. It's particular true with this weekly post. Once you've said thank you and congratulated the winners for a few weeks, there's not much else to say I guess. It's part of the reason I put the bounty on the post, and really, I'm happy with a short comment each week here :)
At times a long comment is required to put a good response across, but I feel that shorter comments across a larger number of accounts can work equally as well, if not better.
Have a good week @enjar :)

And @themanwithnoname just edged me out! By the way, @janton was supposed to be taking the week slower to get his yard work done, so I think that next week, if he wins again, he needs to post an embarrassing photo of his yard in order to accept the prize! haha

I'm guessing that happens to all of us that have been in the Top 5-10 on a regular basis. Did we do enough? I know it happens to me. Funny thing is, there are times where I was sure I needed to do more, and I ended up at the top. Then, other times where I thought, nah, that's enough, and it wasn't.
Like this past week. I thought, okay, I get such and such, I will be just fine. Famous last words. But before janton, it was enough. Now it's not. New paradigm, new strategy. Or actually, old strategy, just more of it. We'll see how far this gets me. :)

My wife is off starting today through Saturday, and so I've done some stuff for her today and she already has plans for me tomorrow. So, I'm not sure where I'm going to be. I'm doing okay but I'm behind where I wanted to be, so we'll see how this goes. As it is, it's not about the top spot. It's about the CL, and of course, I need to get enough done in order to take that record back.
As it is, can't remember if I said this to you or someone else, but I'd rather janton be at full time and power rather than splitting it with something else. I like to win and lose fair and square. If he's only at 80% output and still beats me, well, that's okay. But if he's at 80% and I win, well, not so good. Plus, as you well know, you never know who will suddenly jump out and take the top spot. I don't think anything is set in stone until it is.

I think @headchange was actually asking for a hammock, so the one for me can go to them. After hearing what happened to you, I'm not in any shape at all to be climbing into a hammock, let alone out. :) I don't need one, unfortunately, to take a nap.

Oh lord no just looking at the pictures makes me lazy enough. Besides that after a recent run in with a folding beach chair I am being more careful where I decide to park myself.
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

That's probably wise. We don't need any of us getting hurt because we didn't watch where we were parking ourselves. :)
My problem is generally getting out of things, not getting in them. We have a lawn chair that is very easy to get into and really, once you're there, the last thing you want to do is get out of it. And maybe that's part of it, because getting out of it can be a real pain, especially if it's fully extended in full lounge mode. You can't really sit up and then slide out, and you can't roll out because of the arm rests, so really, the only choice you have is to try to push down the front with your legs hard enough (like a manual recliner), so you can then be in a sitting position, and then get up.
Love the chair, but it's just borderline dangerous to extricate oneself from it. :)

A big "Texas Sized" congratulations to the seemingly unstoppable @janton who has now gone over 1,000 comments a week and is clearly leaving everyone else to pretty much eat dust! That's just about unreal but well done; the delegation prize is definitely well-deserved! And well done to everyone else, and particularly a shoutout to those who managed to get where they are without self-voting.
Speaking of that, I came across what I felt was an "appropriate use" of self voting yesterday: Someone flagged and commented on a phishing scam; the scammer came back and flagged that comment... so the original commenter self-voted to make their warning "visible" again. To be, that's totally a legit use of self-voting.
I think this week marked my 15th(?) consecutive week of making it into the engagement league listings, and now my 3rd in the curation listing... so I guess maybe I'm getting better at the curation thing!
edited to add: And thanks @abh12345 for finding the time to manage all this and still place in the top 10! That's pretty stellar, too!

@abh12345 has set 5.000 SBD bounty on this post!
What is a bounty exactly?
A bounty is money sent to a post to be distributed to the users commenting on it. It provides a way to reward users directly and works in addition to the steem/sbd they receive from the blockchain. It works independently of SteemPower.
You create a bounty by sending any amount of sbd/steem to @steem-bounty together with a post-url in the memo.
How can I earn a bounty Users are then competing for the bounty by writing their answers to the post in comments that will achieve upvotes from the community and especially the bounty creator. The money of the bounty gets distributed to all top level comments of the post at the same time when the post is paid out (7 Days after it was written). How much everyone gets depends on the votes the comments received. The sender of the bounties votes are weighted higher so that she decideds where 80% of the bounty money goes and all other votes determine the rest.@steem-bounty does all of this for you automatically. You can use this service to automatically pay out a challenge, ask a hard question or simply to reward the people that interact with you.
Read more about how it works, even in different languages here.

In the past weeks I thought about writing a post with some analysis from my side about how to get a high ranking in your engagement league. And then especially a high ranking with working a bit less (read without typing ten thousands of characters. So far I thought it might be best not to do so. Because it could create hunters. Although I don't think that really had to be an issue. Cause you always have to type at least a few ten thousand characters to make it in to the top of the league. And anyone could see and do the same as me and analyze the data themselves.
But since you are going to change the league a bit, I thought this might be a good moment for me to post something with analysis about the current setup. But before I do I thought let's ask of you agree to such a post?
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Well the obvious method to game the league is type a load of rubbish replies at level 3 or deeper. I'm hoping no-one is going to stoop that low for a few STEEM and potential naming and shaming though!
Feel free to write whatever you wish :)
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

I actually thought replies to replies would do it. And by having an (extra) conversation like this I hoped that would be sufficient. But in the end I probably only had like 15-25 additional level 2-3 or deeper comments. Of course I also wrote a bit more comments as I usually do. But I guess I just don't get above the 30k characters.
Well I'm really curious to see the changes next week!

You're right. Our 14 extra comments did not change the world. However it made me win a 0 self vote price for the first time ever.
In your case you needed like 5 extra comments to grap the third place. Looking down to the fifth place the gap is really big. So you could have skipped quite a few replies without dropping in the ranking.
Looking up it really seems impossible to beat @janton. Almost everything is doubled by that Steemonian. I predict Asher will take some measures against this behavior π
I seriously think he will give people like me just a bit more chance to win. At least I hope so cause someone got to stop this winning streak π (just kidding of course).
As soon as I have cleared my to do list I will check out Jantons account.
Anyway enjoy this week and let's see what will happen coming Sunday.

Janton beat my consecutive wins record last time, when it went to five. My previous record was four. I may have made it to six, but there were the two weeks in a row where I barely lost to cheneats, and then again barely lost to lynncoyle1. I think those may be the closest first and second place finishes.

I'm not sure I can accomplish both. My idea of fun would be sitting most of my free time here in front of the computer and chasing after the goal. Hers would be keeping me away from the computer as much as possible whether I'm doing something with her or having fun or not.
That is, unless I was raking in the earnings. Then, I couldn't sit here enough. I'd come into the house and she'd say something like, "How much did you make? That's nice. We need more though. Why aren't you out there? Why are you settling for less? Go do something! Quit goofing off!"

1 STEEM for no self-votes will do eh? I think that would be tough to beat voting for yourself at your SP. But of course, you have to engage for it too :)
Changes.... I think i'm going to stick with what I have again. The reason for thinking about the changes was to perhaps bring the field closer to Janton, but i'm not sure penalizing him is the right thing to do, and so tomorrow will look the same as this week I think :P

I did not look at it like that before. But I will never earn 1 Steem from self voting. Not even close if I also take into account that part of the curation from votes after my self vote go to me. But that amount will also be close to zero.
About changes, this week someone proposed to include the number of different Steemonians having replied to. Is that now something that you think about?
