The bright room, is it up to standard?

Living room that uses standard light. Image source pixabay

Greetings, how are you steemit friends? Glad to meet you again and hopefully healthy always. Today I will discuss the calculation of the number of lighting needs in the room, we often guess how many lamps are required in one room, whereas according to the standard, each room needs a different amount of lux. The architects will usually determine an exact composition of light in a room so that users stay comfortable for a long time.

Before electricity was discovered, humans used a candle as a source of light and other simple sources of light as lights during dark conditions, and the habit was eventually replaced by incandescent lights since a beginning of discovery by a well-known scientist to this day.

Lighting systems continue to evolve to date, ranging from the brightest, the most efficient, and the simplest. But what can be known from the lighting?

LUMENS
We recognize lumen as the total amount of light coming from the source, the lumen including the unit of the International System of Units, in its calculation 1 lumen/m2 equals 1 lux.

Lumens can also be understood as dark and bright light, so the lighter the light equals the higher the lumen level it has.

LUX

Same with a lumen, lux including the unit othe International System of Units, a derivative used to measure the flux of light that is dispersed per square meter of space. So to measure a need for light in a room we will use a lux unit.

CANDELA
While the candela is the International System of Unit that serves to measure the strength of light from sources that produce monochromatic radiation at a frequency of 540 x 1012. Or it could be called the light intensity generated from the source.

In 1979, General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) defines candela as.

The candela is the luminous intensity, in a given direction, of a source that emits monochromatic radiation of frequency 540×1012 hertz and that has a radiant intensity in that direction of 1/638 watt per steradian. source

Candela itself comes from the Latin meaning candle

What affects the lighting of a room?

  1. Lumen lights
  2. Spacious room
  3. Color of room
  4. Material type (ceiling, floor, wall, and furniture)

Does each room have standard lighting requirements?
Yes, of course, you need extra light when you are in the laboratory, as well as the bedroom, you do not need extra lighting unless you make your bedroom as a laboratory.

Bedrooms that have too bright lighting will make us a glare and make uncomfortable, as well as less-lit workspace will also interfere with comfort.

For example, we will determine how many lamps are needed in the bedroom according to the standard?

CALCULATION OF NEEDS

We will calculate a need for lights in the bedroom with room size 5 x 5 meters using white wall paint and ceiling gypsum board. We use ordinary 30 Watt fluorescent lights, so how many lamps fit a standard required to illuminate a bedroom?

Keep in mind that a standard 1-watt lamp is equal to 75 lumens, and nowadays normally, a lamp manufacturer has determined the number of lumens on a type of lamp they produce.

Answer.
According to the standard, a bedroom in a residence has a standard lighting of 120-250 lux, so we just consider the requirement is 200 lux.

The formula we use.

N = (E x L x W)/(Ø x LLF x Cu x n)

Explanation.

SymbolInformation
NTotal lamp required
EPowerful illumination
LSpace length
WWidth of space
ØTotal lumens
LLFLight Loss Factor which has a value of 0.7 - 0.8
CuCoefficient of Utilization
nnumber of lights

Is known.

SymbolInformation
E200 Lux
L5 meters
W5 meters
Ø30 watts x 75 lumen = 2250 Lumen
Cu50% or 0.5
LLF0.7
n1

Then the solution is

SymbolInformation
N(200 LUX x 5 meters x 5 meters)/2250 Lumen x 0.7 x 0.5 x 1
N5000/785.50
N6,349 Amount (points) of light

In accordance with these calculations then the need for lighting in a bedroom with a size of 5 x 5 meters using standard 30 watts fluorescent light it takes 6 to 7 lights.

What about other type lights? Currently, you can easily find LED type lights, this type of light is considered more energy efficient.

I found the reference to a LED lighting product (I can not mention a particular brand)

Wattlumens
4 watt350 Lumen
7 Watt600 Lumen
14 Watt1400 Lumen
Etc...-

So by knowing the standard and how the calculation as above then you can adjust a type of light you will install and how many lights are needed in the room that you plan, a higher the lumen of a lamp, a less number of lamps needed to fulfill the lighting standards of a space.

Currently LED lights are considered to be more energy-efficient than regular incandescent lamps.. Image source wikipedia

CONCLUSION

Humans need lighting to help vision during dark conditions, one of them is a lamp, a lamp with electrical energy is currently commonly used in almost every home.

The light of a room itself affects a comfort of a user while on the move in the room, the architects have to able to determine a brightness of a room so that the user comfortable activities.

A room that is too bright also does not determine whether the room is good for health or even disturb a health and comfort level, as well as a room that has less lighting.

The engineers finally set the standard lighting requirements of a room that can be tolerated so that users remain comfortable using it.

In accordance with the above calculation example, then you can determine how many lights are needed in a room that you plan, a calculation of light needs above is just an example and can be adjusted to the needs of a field.

This is the only thing I can write on this occasion, over all the mistakes and lack of unintentional writing as a servant of God, I apologize.

I read the first and second paragraphs of this article while frowning. Understandably, the matter of lighting standards or the use of appropriate lights in a room, this is somewhat complicated to be understood by people like me, because it does not focus on things that are very technical, let alone ignore this problem.

I tried to keep reading the next paragraph, and I felt I was attending a seminar. I managed to read this article until the last paragraph (ending). The result, now at least I already know how the standard lighting the room.

However, about the formula described, I need to read it several times because the calculations are very technical. But, it is a challenge to be able to understand it maximally.

Thank you very much @kharrazi has illuminate my knowledge with an article about lighting.

thanks for stoping by :)

thanks to @ kharrazi who has written down the need for lighting in one room. this is certainly very useful for us, so not only to save but make the view uncomfortable. So it is not too bright that even make energy wastage.

thanks for your comments that really motivate me to keep the spirit :)

Mantap.....jadi kepingin punya ruang tamu seperti itu Bang @kharrazi.
