This is the other surprise. Now Sundays are about shows (either on TV or on streaming websites). I’ll start this one by sharing another interesting fact about myself: I’m an avid Marvel fan. I’ve been since 2012, when I watched the first Avengers movie. Since then I’ve tried my best to read as many comics as I can and I consume pretty everything that’s released on cinemas and tv that has the Marvel logo.
With that in mind I present to you, Marvel’s Runaways.
The show, streamed on Hulu, is based on the comics of the same title and the universe exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although it doesn’t really explicitly connect to the films or the other TV shows – at least on the first season. It tells the story of six teenagers (Alex, Nico, Gert, Molly, Chase & Karolina), with different backgrounds and some even possess especial abilities, that have been friends since they were kids. They find out their parents are involved in some evil things and plot to expose them.
The plot, juvenile as it is, finds a way to be compelling and the fact that, unlike in the comics, where the parents were really never explored, you can also see drama in the parent’s storyline makes it better.
A huge point also is the diversity of the show: four out of the six teenagers are characters of color plus Karolina (the blonde in the picture above) is a canon lesbian - and she's [[MILD SPOILER]] romantically involved with Nico - and Chase (the one in the blue jacket) breaks the stereotypical mold of the basic jock by having a interesting storyline, too.
Overall, the show is entertaining and well-made, with good especial effects (way better than what Marvel's Inhuman attempted to do) and perfect for you if you're in your teenage years because you will relate to a huge level. Cinematography is also very good on this one (like it has the most soothing intro I've seen). Only one season in -with the second season already confirmed-, this Hulu production is a must watch.
