Back on track, I'll start this week by talking about the last movie I saw last week. I will admit I think This Is The End is one of the best comedy films I've seen in my life, so that should tell you if I find James Franco's way of doing comedy funny or not. (hint: I do, at least most of the times)
The Disaster Artist(directed & starred by James Franco) is a biographical comedy/drama about producer & director Tommy Wiseau's and his making of The Room movie, known as the worst movie made ever. Funny anecdote: I watched this movie without knowing much about it (only that James & Dave Franco were in it) but the first thing that caught my attention was the poster: it remineded me of Loki (because of the long, drak, messy hair + the color green).
As the movie goes and we're introduced to Tommy's character, I went, "no way". James Franco -whether you like him or not- does a good job at carrying this movie with his Tommy (who seems to be quite the character in real life). Even the makeup on him was on point because at times it was hard to recognise him as Wiseau. Franco's performance as the unique and misterious man is so good even Wiseau himself gave the film an "99.9%".
As far as comedy goes, this film, in the bizarre-ness of Wiseau cracks you up, and if you're unfamiliar with The Room film even more so. Franco's co-star (and real life brother), Dave, also does a good job playing Greg Sestero (who wrote the book the movie's based on), and the cameos of Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Ari Graynor, and Josh Hutcherson are worth mentioning, too.
The peak of the movie is found in the performance of James Franco of Tommy Wiseau, but it does tell -in a funny & sometimes dramatic- way the story of the making of the worst movie ever.
My rating for this one is:
