Watching The Maltese Falcon with my family recently was a real treat. It is of course a much lauded classic, and rightly so. I highly recommend it for all ages.
So much has already been written about this movie so I will not cover the obvious aspects of it. But what really stood out to me was some amazing lessons on how being deceitful is so dangerous and damaging to relationships. As a family man, I am often looking for teaching moments that help my children grow in wisdom.
Many of the characters are at first seemingly quite innocent. Yet the more you get to know the characters, the more it's hard to trust or believe anything that many of them say. It can be quite frustrating, which is such a great lesson on why it's important to be honest.
My daughter and I had a great talk about honesty after the movie and we are very grateful to have watched it together!
Oldies but goodies!

I still haven't seen it; you know, cultural osmosis tricks you into thinking you've "seen" it already. But I do love the parody in Whose Line: "Aha! The Maltese Burger!"
