The Great Con - How University Caused Me To Become An Entrepreneur

Brodie Tuck 1st July 2017

University is not cheap; we have known this for quite some time, students are paying exorbitant amounts of money for the ‘privilege’ of proceeding into the once prestigious halls of higher learning.[1]

But is it worth it?

I am currently on intermission from my law degree in Australia, however the more I witness the seemingly rampant lunacy perpetrated on US university campuses[2] the more I begin to wonder, is it worth returning?

It is true that the situation facing Australian universities has not reached the same fever pitch as seen in the United States, but we are not far behind.

Victoria University for example was recently the target of both staff and student lead protests after the college brazenly agreed to host a meeting of the ‘Q Society.’[3] Q Society is a outspoken critic of both Islam and Halal certification in Australia, with several prominent conservative political figures in attendance including Corey Bernardi.

Despite the fact that the University’s apparent ‘discretion’ was merely to have the audacity to lease out a space in order for the group to host a dinner, for rabid anti-free speech protesters, this was too much for them to handle. Further undermining my now dwindling faith in the education system, the university backed down from their decision to host the event, cowering at the feet of its detractors.

I assure the reader, despite the protesters’ goal being to participate in the continued erosion of the fabric of freedom of association and freedom of speech in Australia, those responsible were beyond elated to hear that their petulant tantrum throwing succeeded in it’s twisted goal.

When university students celebrate the destruction of an open discourse, the one thing I treasure beyond any other, it more than reduces my inclination to part with anymore of my time, or money for the sake of ‘higher education.’

With the sinking realisation for many, myself included, that university students are quite possibly coming out dumber than when they went in, the answer of what to do, becomes clear.

Leave.

As a conservative, right-leaning, 20 year old white male, university campuses are far from the most hospitable of locals for me. That being said, I am a conservative, right-leaning, 20 year old white male, so my arguments, intellect and debate abilities have been honed to quite the edge thanks to the grindstone that is Social Justice.

While I still would like to believe that we could save some of those poor souls, the sad reality is that university campuses are fast becoming both, money pits and impervious regressive strongholds of epic proportions.

With that in mind, the best way to facilitate change, either cultural or otherwise, is via entrepreneurial ventures, outside influences. It was with this realisation that I started Veracity Media, with the vision to achieve the following:

Establish a true alternative media presence in Australia.
Bring authenticity back to journalism, no more cat videos on prime time News.
End the strangle hold the ‘Fake News Media’ in Australia has on the information filtering down to the public.
Challenge the narrative being peddled by the MSM.
Bring as many facts to the public as possible, in order to create a more politically literate populace.

Universities are no longer places that welcome those of us who are impatient or entrepreneurial; and although it may be too soon for me to know precisely which category I fall into. What I know for certain, is that it is not a place that fosters intellectual diversity, nor is it a place that encourages entrepreneurial out of the box thinking, for that reason, I am becoming an entrepreneur.

Have a great day guys!
