EOS Vikings are a group of Norwegian EOS enthusiasts who are fascinated by the historic attempt to create a global, self-governing and value-based community.

Being funded by the community, we feel that EOS Vikings have an obligation to use all BP revenue to create value for the community, i.e. operate as non-profit.

Our location in Norway not only places us in a stable and safe environment, it also gives us the opportunity to offer sustainable block production through the abundance of renewable energy (hydro power) that is produced locally, within 50 km of our data centre.

Tech spec
We are using a distributed setup in two, tier 3 data centres in Frankfurt, Germany for our infrastructure. As soon as the Lefdal Mine data centre in Norway is ready in Q3, we will move the productive systems to Norway. (see scaling)

The infrastructure is based on OpenStack Pike Release. The orchestration plane is fully redundant and spread over two tier 3 datacenter, interXion and e-shelter. Each location has high performance Ceph storage locally. The VM´s are custom-sized and can easily be resized for scaling purposes.

The working storage for all nodes will initially be 1TB. All incoming traffic will be balanced by a Layer7 HA Proxy. Internal servers and services will be serviced by a separate HA Proxy using L7 health checking. The services are distributed on minimum two nodes in order to split the traffic, increase stability, interruption free maintenance.

Internet connection: 4 x independent 10 Gbps links, BGP routed.

Scaling
Our infrastructure at iNNOVO Cloud is scalable according to demand. However, in order to provide the best platform with regard to scalability, stability, redundancy and sustainability we will install more of our own bare-metal servers at a location close to Oslo, Norway after launch.

In Q3 we will move our cloud infrastructure to Lefdal Mine, Norway. This is a brand new, tier 3 data centre with a CO2-neutral energy supply and an innovative water cooling system. It is also one of the most secure data centres in Europe.

Community benefit
Having found the EOS community only 2 months ago, we did not have the time to organise meetups. However, we did roll up our sleeves and contribute to the programming of the community voter portal together with other BP candidates.

We are also in the process of creating an EOS DevDac. This DAC for developers has the mission to attract good programmer minds to EOS. It will operate economically independent from the EOS block producer. We look forward to make the EOS-model of self-governance work within this framework. The DAC will also serve as a case study to see whether this structure can be a business model that can deliver superior performance and at the same time keep a fair balance between wealth creation and wealth distribution.

  • not use any funds for other business or financial interests

  • run EOS Vikings as a non-profit

All other activities, such as dApp development, will be in separate legal entities that are financially independent from the BP.
