Everybody needs a piece of equipment to fix. For example, to repair something in the house, car engine, electric or plumbing work, or for construction purposes. In all the scenarios, we observe that we need equipment for a short period. Designing an equipment rental app providing all the provisions to rent equipment for a short period is a worthy idea to consider.

When booking through an app, each customer has different views and opinions on how they prefer their renting experience. In this blog post, I share how to design your equipment rental app with various use cases and its solution.

User Stories

To build an equipment rental app with a high user experience, we need to understand customer’s pain points and disappointments they face when renting it. The common observation we can find in equipment rental marketplace are:

Some users want the seller’s place to be near their location.

  • Users expected their equipment delivered to their site location or delivered to the doorsteps.
  • Users book faster by having easy navigating links to various equipment categories.
  • The users want to know the daily, weekly, and monthly charges of the rental.
  • Some users want to know the condition of the equipment before booking it.
  • Users who rent gardening or electric equipment want the booking to get done faster.
  • Designing the booking Flow

    Solution 1:
Design the app having a filter on the home screen with the options of location and the equipment category. Users can discover their desired equipment faster in their nearby location.

    Solution 2:
Provide a door-step delivery option in the booking form and mention its delivery charges. Users can tick the option and fill the address if they want to opt for the service.

    Solution 3:
When users click the property listing, provide the fee charged per day, week, and month at the bottom of the picture to know the price amount easily.

    Solution 4:
Give detailed information on the condition of the equipment which verified by the website owner. This brings trust to customers to rent the equipment.

    Solution 5:
Design a streamlined booking flow where end-users can book the equipment faster in two or three steps. And make sure the app loads faster. According to 2018 research by Google, 53% of mobile users leave a site that takes longer than three seconds to load.
