It began with unbearable stomach pains which went on for hours at work. Finally, I got up, grabbed my coat and purse and told my manager that I was in excruciating pain and going to admit myself to ER downtown.
When I got there I waited as there were 4 busy ladies admitting patients. Finally, my turn came and I proceeded to give my ID and tell my story. I was told to sit down and wait in the small area. A few minutes later, my name got called and I had my vitals read by a machine, as I already had my ID bracelet placed on my arm and another plastic one stating my allergy in RED plastic. I was then told to go around the corner into the waiting room which was crowded at 11:30AM.
My name got called and I had a machine hooked up and give a reading, then out I went and had my blood sample taken. Somewhere, after another 30 minutes or more, a male nurse said he was going to take my vitals AGAIN. Asked what was ailing me and said I needed to give a urine sample. Three hours went by in this busy ER with Code blue announcement and trauma patients arriving. Finally my name got called and I was led to a young ER doctor who was very pleasant and went through my ailments which when he pressed on my tummy I was helping. He said that my urine test showed no bladder infections but he suggested a cat scan so off I went to a waiting area to get prodded and IV tube inserted. The cat scan was simple but had a few more steps in it plus I was given pain killers before my scan. Another wait ensued and now it was getting to be 5 hours in there. I asked the doctor when he would get my results as I was anxious and did not want to miss my last train to my city. He came by with paperwork and said cat scan showed everything including kidneys all operating fine. He had another test but that one was going to come at a later date. I run out of there as now it was crazily busy. I have to thank ER and the hard working wonderful doctors, nurses and staff that see horrific things and calmly operate in such circumstances with dirty individuals as well as simple people like myself who treat everyone with kindness and quick aid. This ER hospital has me wowed and I am hugely grateful for the care they give each person.
