The Safest Way to Save Yourself from an Earthquake

By Doug Copp
Head of Rescue and Disaster Manager
from American Rescue Team International (ARTI)

EXPERIENCE

I have crawled under 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, and established rescue teams in several countries and one of the United Nations experts on Disaster Mitigation for 2 years. I have worked in all major disasters in the world since 1985in 1996 we made a film that proved the accuracy of the survival method that I made.

TRIAL

We tear down a school and a house with 20 dolls in it. 10 dolls "bow and shelter" and 10 others use the "life triangle" survival method. after the earthquake simulation, we crawled into the debris and entered the building to make the film documentation about the results. the film shows that those who look down and take refuge cannot survive and those who use my method "life triangle" survive 100%. this film has been seen by millions of people on television in Turkey and parts of Europe, and witnessed in television programs in the USA, Canada and Latin America.

FACT

The first building I entered was a school in Mexico City in the 1985 earthquakeall children take shelter under their desks. All children crumble to their bones. They might be able to survive if they lay beside each table in the hallway. At that time, students were taught to take shelter under something.

TRIANGLE TECHNIQUES OF LIFE

simply, when a building collapses, the ceiling will collapse upon objects or furniture, destroying these objects, leaving an empty space next to them. This empty room is what I call the "life triangle". the bigger the object, the stronger the object and the less likely it is to crush. The less crushed, the greater the empty space, the more likely it is for people who use it to survive injury.

PAY ATTENTION

  1. item one time you see a building collapsing on television, count the "life triangle" that you meet.

  2. itemThis triangle is everywhere and is a common form.

  3. Almost everyone who just "ducks and takes refuge" when a building collapses dies of being crushed. people who take shelter under an object will crush their bodies.

  4. Cats, dogs and babies usually take a curled position naturally. That's also what you have to do during an earthquake. This is a natural instinct to save yourself. you can survive in a narrow room. Take a position next to an object, next to the sofa, next to a large object that will crumble slightly but leave an empty room next to it.

  5. Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and move as the earthquake flow. If the wooden building turns out to be still collapsing, many safe empty spaces will be formed. Besides that, wooden buildings have little concentration of heavy parts. The brick building will be smashed to pieces. brick pieces will cause bodily injury but few will crush the body compared to reinforced concrete.

  6. If you are in bed when the earthquake occurs, roll over to the bedside. A safe empty room will be beside the bed. hotels will have a high level of safety by just posting a warning
behind the door so guests lie on the floor next to the bed in the event of an earthquake.

  7. in the event of an earthquake and you cannot go out through a window or door, then lie down curl up next to a sofa or large chair.

  8. Almost everyone who is behind the door when the building collapses will die. Why? if you stand behind the door and the door falls forward or backward you will be hit by the ceiling above it. If it's the door
collapse to the side, you will be hit and split in two by it. In both cases, you will not survive!

  9. Never run through the stairs. Stairs have different "frequency moments" (the stairs will swing apart from the main building). Stairs and other parts of the building will continue to collide with each other until there is damage to the structure of the stairs. people who run to the stairs before the stairs fall will be cut off by it. Even if the building does not collapse, stay away from the stairs. Stairs will be part of the building that is most likely to be damaged. even if the earthquake does not break down the ladder, the ladder will collapse also when people run away to save themselves. Stairs must be checked even though other parts of the building are not damaged.

  10. Stand near the outer wall of the building or outside if possible. It would be safer to be outside the building than in it. The farther you are from the outside of the building, the greater the likelihood that your escape route will be closed.

  11. People in the vehicle will be hit if the road above collapses and crushes the vehicle; this turned out to occur in the floors of the Nimitz toll road. Victims from the San Francisco earthquake all survived in their vehicles & died. they may be able to survive by getting out of the vehicle and lying next to their vehicle. All the destroyed vehicles have a safe empty room as high as 1 meter beside it, except for vehicles that are directly hit by the toll road column.

  12. I found, when I crawled under the office of a newspaper company and another office that kept a lot of paper that paper did not compact. Large empty spaces were found around the stack of papers.

We are all concerned about your earthquake that happened in Lombok, Indonesia. All the support and assistance, both energy, funds and prayers, we convey to the people there who are victims. we all don't know, this can also happen to us too, so we quote ways to avoid victims of the earthquake disaster.
