APPLICATIONS WhatsApp is commonly used for the benefit of video calls and voice calls among users. Consideration, calls through WhatsApp does not cost money, compared to calling credit through mobile. However, the WhatsApp call service uses Internet data.
Well, not long ago, Rwandan students, Doedate Mugenzi found a way for WhatsApp users can use internet calls.
Quoted from Newtimes, Wednesday (28/2/2018), Mugenzi develop prototype technology that allows WhatsApp call without internet can run. He said the idea of finding the system departs from the limited population of Rwanda and Africa to communicate to friends inside and outside the country.
"The problem is that there are many people in Rwanda and other parts of Africa who can not have smartphones to access internet services, so people should use services that allow them to communicate using the platforms available to them," he explained.
To use WhatsApp communication call without internet, Mugenzi must enter the caller and recipient number in WhatsApp. He uses WhatsApp as a platform to connect two people.
Mugenzi's computer system combines optical physics, mobile gadget communication techniques and networking principles. Mugenzi believes this prototype can benefit both consumers and service providers. The prototype system allows WhatsApp users to directly call mobile phone numbers.
"The idea actually started from a joke, playing with my computer," he explained.
But, he said, over time MUgenzi realize that potential can be developed. Mugenzi admitted, WhatsApp system without internet findings that there is still a weakness. The system has not been able to make group calls at any one time. Mugenzi says there needs to be more support for conducting intensive research in order to finalize the system.
Currently Mugenzi is working with the US Embassy in Rwanda to offer innovative training to young people in Rwanda.
